@[member="Moira Skaldi"] - I'm fuzzy on the idea of a gun/knife that can kill anything, but I'm considerably more comfortable with the idea of a weapon of permakill. Manage to get the kill, the thing Just Stays Dead. Soul trap something or other.

It has been a while since I watched any of the episodes, certainly of the newer seasons, but I recall that a number of higher-ranking demons against whom Ruby's knife was not effectual. Like Alastair. Presumably Abaddon as well.
As for the Colt...well, Lucifer survived! But then he always said they'd meet in Detroit again!

The Colt only didn't work on God, and the Archangels. Lucifer said theres 5 beings who couldn't survive it. Curiously though it freaking disappears when they need it!
Also i always assumed the Knife was some sort of demon banishing celtic magic, thus why it didn't work on Alistair, cause he has MOAR MAGIC!
