Mimic - Capable of mimicking voices of other people, provided the unit has heard them speak for at least a minute. The droid also has a large number of languages with its memory banks.
Resistant – Use of alloys such as Ferrocarbon and Duravlex give the unit a high resistance to flame, corrosion and physical force. This applies to all parts of the droid's body except the head.
Back-up - The unit is capable of backing up memory banks to a remote computer. This process takes a long time and, if interrupted, data may be lost.
Weaknesses:
EMP - The unit is weak against EMP weaponry, which may damage, destroy or shut-down the unit.
Delicate Head - The unit's head is made from toughened glass-composite. However, excessive force will crack the glass and damage the electronics underneath.
DESCRIPTION
Intended to be an improved version of the standard protocol droid, the VAO was designed to emulate organic behaviour to make the host comfortable. The creator, Zai Avery, was targeting specific complaints regarding the stiff behaviour of other models and the desire to have a protocol droid that would 'act organic'.
More resistant materials were used (compared to conventional protocol droids) so the unit could double as a secuirty droid if needed. Materials such as Ferrocarbon and Duravlex were used to strengthen the body. Unfortunately, such material could not be used on the head, as they interfered with sensors.
A unique design of vocabulator was trialed. The device gave the droid a wide range of voices and tones, in addition to the vast selection of languages in the memory banks. This would allow each unit to have a unique voice and allow the user to tailor it if they choose to do so.
Restraining bolts and memory wipes were infrequently used during testing, as they interfered with the droid's core programming. This proved a problem, as the droid developed independent thought. During the penultimate test, the droid set fire to the workshop and fled. Future models were cancelled.
