- Variable yield.
- Damages crystals only.
- Cracks, shatters, or pulverizes crystals, even inside technology and most forms of protection.
- Leaves everything else essentially untouched.
- No explosion, just a gurgly feeling in your bowels.
- Quite hefty for a grenade.
- If you chuck one of these, your faceplate might crack, your blaster will break, and your lightsaber's probably toast too.
- Exotic condensed-matter composite can protect crystals from the shatter charge.
Crystals show up absolutely everywhere in galactic standard technology. You can easily find high-end applications like kyber weaponry (e.g. lightsaber, Death Star) and the thaissen crystal sheets in Force detectors. More commonly, crystals appear as components in high-energy equipment, laser cannons and blasters, navigation computers, some power cells, and even currency. Crystals are gorram everywhere.
Just not in Sharukan space. One of the key factors that makes Sharukan tech incompatible with galactic standard offerings is the near-total absence of macroscopic crystals. The Sharuka are just fine with this and have spent a very long time learning to take advantage of the distinction. They developed variable-yield shatter charges as a one-size-fits-all way to utterly bork the rest of the galaxy should it ever come to a fight. When it does come to a fight, shatter charges play a disproportionately effective role. More than one OPA crew has found its guns non-functional and its navicomputer spitting errors after tangling with a Sharuka.
