Originally an ordinary short sword, the weapon was little more than a razor-sharp backup weapon. Excellent for missions involving stealth, yet lacking when it came to melee duels due to its inability to resist the superheated plasma blades of lightsabers.
When teaching her colleague, Darth Veles, about Sith Alchemy, Darth Arcanix used Veles’ secondary weapon as an item to demonstrate the Sith Alchemy’s power on. The Dark Side ritual ruthlessly twisted the weapon’s straight features and darkened its formerly silver blade. The edge will never dull and the weapon can is resistant to the energy blade of a lightsaber and other powerful strikes, turning it into a reliable tool that can be safely used against lightsaber wielding adversaries. As usual with Sith swords, the weapon can deflect blaster bolts and other particle weapons. It also empowers the Dark Side connection of its wielder. This combinations makes it possible to "store" Force lightning within the weapon's blade.
Furthermore, when held by Dark Side users, the weapon feels pleasantly warm to touch as if left out in the afternoon sun. Those strongly devoted to the Light Side of the Force will not experience the same feeling; as a result of agonizing deaths of several sentients used as bloody sacrifices necessary for the ritual, the weapon’s metal will produce a strong burning sensation upon touch. It does not burn physically; the effect is merely a reaction of a Light Side aura touching the Dark Side core eternally burned into the weapon.
