From his time spent serving as a Jedi for the Galactic Alliance, to now serving as an Imperial Knight for the New Imperial Order, a lightsaber has also been the greatest ally to Kino. To him, it wasn’t just a weapon, but a tool that helps balance and center one throughout life.
When his best friend, Fisk Kamer, was killed in combat while fighting on Ziost, it nearly sent the Knight was nearly sent to the dark side of the force. He stepped away from the New Jedi Order and went into solitude. Durning this time he meditated on the force, try to reconnect to his light-sided roots.
Realizing that he would never be able to return to where he once was, he decided to enlist where his friend served: the New Imperial Order. Training amongst their ranks, Kino eventually earned the status of Imperial Knight, and was able to construct his saber.
Using parts from his Jedi lightsaber and @Fisk Kamer’s lightsaber, he created his golden weapon: Vengeance. Now that the Sith Empire have been defeated, the Knight will use this saber to combat against the Brotherhood of the Maw. Now that his friend has been avenged, he can move on to avenge some one else important to him and the New Imperial Order.
That person is the Imperator, Irveric Tavlar.
