Description: Verdant Hills District is the name used to describe one of the largest chemical plants in the Empire. The majority of this district is long tracks of piping, used to extract ores (in the styles of fracking and slurry for transport), the creation of hazardous liquid chemicals and the creation of hazardous aerosols. The latter two will be used for weaponry for the Empire, while the extraction of ores is utilized in the manufacturing district, which smelts the ores, creates metals and building materials. The district is very loud, and air quality, while the plant’s majority is subterranean, is very poor, as many of the fumes are pumped to the surface.
The residential area is standard flop houses and ghetto. Standard repetition houses in steel gray with very little vegetation keeps the workers of the factories nearby and housed. It was designed to help simmer the talks of revolution. Without increasing wages, the housing has been covered by the coalition of plants for the workers. Wages, with the housing are kept at just below the level where people could leave the job, and they work long hours to scrape by. Nearby is an industrial complex of tall, glittering buildings, the result of the companies earning their keep and profits, only to look down on the slums and the nearby and very dangerous plant.
History: This district was created over one of the most rich resource nodes the Empire could find. Designed to start extracting the resources from the planet, Verdant Hills became something of a wasteland, destroying a large boreal forest. Fracking and unsanctioned environmental degradation took its toll as the water began to become polluted as the local environment died.
Seeing the destruction here, the Empire allowed for real estate to be sold here for the industrial machine that was fueling and feeding the Empire. This has caused the environmental catastrophe to spiral out of control and instead of managing the situation without, the corporations put up skyscrapers around the outside to block the view from the rest of the Empire, however the residences for the workers remain inside the ring.
