Personality

Darkly and haunting, almost beautiful, Vereshin is a time travelling sorcerer dealing with the consequences of his magic. Like a particle lost in the void of space, he travels through time in the pursuit of rectifying his past, which only displaces the way in which he proceeds through time even more. With no regard for how his actions affect other people, or the laws of nature itself, he lives on the fringes of society. Even though his intentions in helping himself are well, he does not consider the damage it causes, nor does he care about who it affects. He does not respect the laws of physics, but rather, sees them as his to break.

At first glance, Vereshin is a very elegant man, who is regal in a way that is tempered and austere. With a lighter than air voice with traces of an accent, he is soft in his manner and dapper, which effectively fools people into thinking he is much less dangerous than what he really is. He is suave when his temper is under control and genuinely sweet, to an extent which can be interpreted as unsettling. When talking about magic or his beloved physics, he is jovial and overall lovely to be around, especially when somebody else shows interest in his work. Towards women, he is chivalrous, which can be mistaken for him actually caring about them.

Although Vereshin’s courtesy is not a guise, it inevitably harbors what he means to do in order to get what he wants. As far as his outward manner goes, he is sweet, until the time comes for him to discard an ally. Ultimately, he is selfish and only kind when it suits him, disregarding the plights of others as little more than obstacles which he needs to deal with in order to attain his goal. When necessary, he can lie effortlessly and will abandon an obligation at the drop of a hat if it no longer suits his purpose. Playful to a wicked extent, he likes to have fun with experiments, usually at the expense of others, or the fabric of space and time itself.

Vereshin’s devilish antics are never without respect and he is genteel towards anybody he is working with, until things don’t go his way. If he is working on a spell which fails, he will lose his temper and be more cruel towards anybody who is with him at the time. He is domineering and likes to be in control of his surroundings, which applies to physics and other people, he is kind until they don't do what he wants them to. While an intellectual, he is a rebel and outright refuses to do what he is told, even if it is for his own good. When he is uncomfortable, he does not bother with manners and snaps at people for no reason.

Vereshin is extremely unpleasant when he first wakes up. Until he has had a cup of tea and a cigarette, he is rude and aggressive towards anybody who tries to talk to him. Once he settles down and gets into his formula, he softens, retaining the chipper joy and mannerly approach to others that he usually has. When his work is going well, he is considerably happier and lenient in his treatment of others, dismissing mistakes he would usually punish if his work was going badly at the time. He has a tendency for throwing tantrums if he does not get what he wants, then will proceed to sulk until he does. Like the passage of time, Vereshin is unpredictable.

A loner, Vereshin has no desire to hold a title of authority. He travels through time in his repetitive quest to rectify his past, maintaining no concrete allegiance to any faction. Although powerful, he remains obscure, which is exactly how he likes it. He likes his privacy and prefers to work in solitude, unburdened by the responsibilities of political obligations. He sees war as a waste of time and traditional values as foolish, holding nothing but disdain towards the value many cultures place on family lines. He values knowledge above all and regards tradition as anathema to that.

Vereshin’s very existence, as well as his endeavours as a time traveller are paradoxical and unrestrained by the laws of conventional physics. He does not subscribe to the idea of impossibility and will go out of his way to prove that something can be done, no matter how absurd. His imagination knows no bounds and he is constantly finding ways through magic to break otherwise concrete scientific laws, which he finds great amusement in doing. He enjoys taking risks, many of which are absolutely wild and will prove a theory with unbreakable determination, even if it puts him in cosmic danger.

As a result of travelling to the past, the way in which Vereshin proceeds through time is distorted. His frame of reference has been shifted backwards, causing him to experience events in his life which have already happened. Because of this, he commits to his goal with even more vigor to prevent his past from repeating itself, which in turn, displaces his position in time even more. The only way he can solve this problem is by traveling to the future, which remains his current goal. The further he falls down the rabbit hole of space and time, the less likely it becomes that he will ever find a way out.

Strengths

Powerful + Vereshin’s strength in the Force is astounding. Among one of the powerful Force users who does not hold a title of authority, he is capable of manipulating the fabric of space and even time on an earthly scale. Having been sucked into a black hole and survived, his force output is so strong that his presence warps the space around him, displacing the timeframe of the area.

Otherworldly + With powers that are not entirely restricted to the laws of nature, Vereshin can do things that can only be described as inexplicable. He can split the mass of himself into doppelgangers to appear in multiple places at once and apparate into a raven to travel across long distances. The copies of himself that he casts are powerful enough to cause harm and the technique, when used offensively, can permanently split an opponent into different selves.

Human Singularity + Vereshin’s presence in the force is akin to the pull of a black hole, a consuming vortex so strong that no light can escape from it. He can collapse himself into space to travel to different points in time and cast singularities on an earthly scale, then hurl them at opponents. Powers utilizing light are useless against him, as he simply consumes the photons being cast.

Genius + A genius in his own right, Vereshin holds a doctorate in physics and can solve differential equations in his head. He applies the problems he solves in equations in practice, manipulating the forces they describe in his magic. He is a visionary, with a limitless imagination and an ever present need to prove the impossible to be possible.

Weaknesses

Warped in Time The continuous process of inserting himself into past events and altering them has affected the way Vereshin’s future proceeds, with events of his past recurring as the effective future instead. The only way he can solve this is by traveling to the future, which only distorts his passage of time even more. In the event that one of Vereshin's past selves see him, it will override him in time and erase him from the present.

Physically Weak – Vereshin is thin and suffers from a range of health problems due to his heavy use of the Dark Side. He is a chain smoker and experiences pain and discomfort if he goes for too long without a cigarette. As a result of being compacted by the black hole, his internal organs don't function properly, which he relieves by constantly smoking cigarettes.

Unhinged – Vereshin is highly unpredictable and difficult to control. He does whatever he wants without any regards for the consequences, which puts him at odds with anybody he is working with. While this relieves him of the responsibility associated with being tied to a factional power, it also means he cannot maintain a title of his own and any political bases he is entrusted with, he quickly abandons or twists to suit his own goals.

Temper – While Vereshin is for the most part, a collected individual and a gentleman, he has a fragile and difficult to predict temper. There are a few things which can cause him to lose it, namely, failing to solve an equation, encountering contradictions in his work, going too long without smoking cigarettes and in general, just being uncomfortable. When Vereshin gets angry, he is liable to commit violent acts and even kill people if they don’t do what he wants.

Selfish – Vereshin is out for himself, plain and simple. Although he spends time within factional borders and will even work for them if he needs to, he has absolutely no consideration for their ideals or the well-being of their citizens. Because of this, he has difficulty maintaining a permanent home or finding work, because he simply does not care enough about anybody else’s projects in order to contribute to them.

Not a Team Player – Vereshin does not play well with others. He is courteous up until a point, but will abandon a mission the moment it strays from his own objectives. He doesn’t take assigned tasks seriously and will lash out at his teammates if they do something he doesn’t like. He cannot accommodate the opinions of other scientists and will only listen to them if they have an idea which is applicable to his own goals.

Rebel – Vereshin has a compulsive need to do the exact opposite of what he has been told. This includes orders he has been given on a specific mission, as well as the beliefs which are upheld by certain cultures, such as the Sith. He despises traditional values, which causes him to clash with any of the respective orders who might employ him. Whether Jedi, Sith or Nightsister, he cannot bring himself to validate their culture and thinks they are foolish for believing in their so called “living entities.”

Dependent on the Force – Vereshin cannot use a weapon of any kind. He has no skills with any form of melee combat and depends entirely on the Force to defend himself. Within the range of a Ysalamiri or a Light Side nexus, he will be unable to use his powers.

Light – As Vereshin’s signature in the Force emulates the black hole he came out of, he is incapable of casting light. He can destroy light and manipulate its speed, but cannot produce photons out of nothing. He is also particularly vulnerable within the range of a Light Side nexus, the effect of which can send his body into entropy if he is near it for long enough.

Not an Alchemist As a sorcerer, Vereshin is only skilled in branches involving reality, time and space and is a poor alchemist. He has no knowledge of potions or how to make them and cannot manipulate matter to the level that a skilled alchemist can.

Appearance

An elegant man, Vereshin is thin and stands at an average height. He has raven black hair, which is short, dead-straight and neatly trimmed with a distinctive widow’s peak. While he usually slicks back his hair, it is soft and fluffy when left dry and unkempt. He has pale skin and brilliant, lime green irises which glow when he uses magic. He has severe, arched eyebrows, thin lips and a slightly hooked nose. His teeth are pitch black, a result of his corruption in the Dark Side and his cheeks are hollow. Always neat in terms of his outward appearance, he never goes outside without shaving and wears cologne to mask the smell of cigarette smoke.

Vereshin has a gothic sense of style and always wears a long, black overcoat with a standing collar. Underneath the coat, he wears a plain, white shirt and a black, knitted vest with a purple, silk bowtie. On other occasions, he will wear a grey, cotton cravat or chiffon scarf, which he tucks into his vest. He wears black suit pants tucked into boots with pointed toes and many silver buckles. In hot climates, he wears black, round sunglasses and a hat. He has mathematical symbols delicately tattooed on his fingers and black rings around his eyes from his heavy use of the Dark Side.

Biography

Vereshin Ilyich Sabek was born on Ziost, in a poor village, deep in the mountains, where most of the population worked on the land. His mother was a gypsy who made her living in foresight, telling the fortunes of the locals for a small price. On her way to the village, she encountered a local drunk, which resulted in her falling pregnant. As she was barely able to feed herself, having a child was out of the question.

After dumping the child in the river, Vereshin’s mother returned the next morning to find that he was still alive, and kicking. She made up her mind to raise him and settled in the village. As she did not have the money needed to raise a child, she decided to move in with Vereshin’s father, but they never married. Due to his drinking, their financial situation was not made any easier and it was not long before she began to be beaten.

Vereshin would run away to escape the violence at home and sought comfort in the temple of a Kissai priest, who trained him in the Force while keeping him safe from his father. Between his training, Vereshin would also help his mother with her work and took part in her readings of the future. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in the technical underlayer of what she was doing. Time, as it proceeded in the visions his mother conducted, was a force of nature which captivated him, which it would continue to do for the rest of his life.

The Kissai taught Vereshin how to read and write and by the time he turned ten, he had acquired the literacy skills which his parents lacked. As he gradually surpassed his mentor in intelligence, he began to think about life outside the village and wanted to go to school, but his parents could not afford it, so they handed him over to the local Imperial outpost. It was the first time he had left the village and his mind was still very much in a state of isolation. Nervously, he willingly went with the Sith and joined them in their ranks. He was taken to the temple on Bastion, the Imperial capital, where he would spend his years as an Acolyte.

The Sith Lord [member="Darth Abyss"] took Vereshin as his official apprentice and taught him how to bend reality to his will. He performed well in the art of illusions and studied physics in his spare time. He excelled in differential calculus and soon began to apply the problems he solved in practice, manipulating the forces they described through magic. As an Acolyte, Vereshin was shy and easily frightened, especially in violent situations. Under Abyss’ tutelage, he was made to confront visions of his past, which pushed him past his mental barriers and brought out his true power as a Sith.

Around this time, Vereshin began working on a project which would culminate his training, an amulet which altered time. After receiving a set of unknown coordinates from Abyss which he had to decipher, he travelled to the drowned archives, his master’s personal library. When he expressed his desire to further his skill in time manipulation, his master warned him of the dangers of toying with such a intense breed of magic. Vereshin did not heed his master's warning and proceeded to show him his skills. Abyss was impressed and agreed to assist in crafting the alchemic components of the amulet, while Vereshin imbued it with the spell.

Following the completion of the watch, Vereshin was summoned by Abyss’ own master, [member="Darth Ophidia"], who conducted the trial in which he would earn the title of Sith Knight. During the trial, Vereshin was forced to enter several visions of his future, which prophesied every stage of his career, from physicist to immortal Sith Lord. At the end of the vision, Vereshin engaged his future self as a immortal Lord in combat and defeated them. The vision of himself collapsed into space, culminating in his death, the final stage of the trial. He was sucked into the singularity and returned to the temple, where he knelt before Darth Ophidia.

Darth Ophidia granted Vereshin the title of Sith Knight and he left the temple to set out into the wider galaxy, having witnessed a vision which predicted his death, which he determined to circumvent by travelling through time. He applied at the Bastion Academy of Science, where he studied physics. The young sorcerer arrived at the university like a foreboding shadow, a dark creature which none of the scientists understood, or trusted. While attending lectures, he kept his Force sensitivity a secret and lived among academics as an eccentric scientists, conspicuous only by his dark taste in clothing and bad attitude.

As Vereshin grew up, the shy demeanour and unfaltering courtesy he had once maintained began to fade away, having been replaced by a creature who was far more confident in the face of danger. Throughout his career as a young physicist, he continuously got in trouble with the academic institute, most often for attacking other students and smoking in lectures. While most of the other physicists regarded him as somewhat of a black sheep, there was a small group of them who found him intriguing.

Work in Progress.
