The establishment of the new Royal Naboo Republic came as a shock to many worlds in former Confederacy of Independent Systems space, but the Royal Naboo Navy was well aware of the development. Long before the new nation was declared, the knowledge that a new fleet of starships would be required to both protect Naboo and its extended territories would be a high priority. A new generation of starships would be needed, and engineers from across the galaxy were recruited to help begin the process.
The Veruna Class was developed as a test bed for the new Naboo Royal Navy. Design concepts being tested for future, larger ships were experimented with, leading to the development of what would soon become the standard for new ships of the line. The Veruna Class lacks heavy armor plating, with several sections of the ships superstructure visible beneath the thin armor placed over vital systems. Instead, the Veruna Class relies on speed, maneuverability and overlapping shield generators to protect itself, with an average spread of weaponry. An straightforward designed mixed with the elegance that Naboo has long been known for.
