ADVANCED FEATURES
Non
Strengths:
- Buzzers: The ability to carry 4 squadrons of fights on the ship for it's size combined with its average speed makes the Vettore a decent quick response carrier able to deliver a moderate amount of fire power quickly to any front. In addition it can take on a classic carrier cruisers role and act as a ship of the line.
- Armored Lance: Due to past problems with the front mounted lance being targeted and damaged easily the newer model of war ships feature an armored tip. This spear like tip can open and close in between firing to keep the deadly weapon safe and if need be used as an actual spear for ramming enemy ships.
- Sticky Wheels: Due to being a carrier primarily such a ship is unable to perform tight turns and other forms of maneuvering. Mainly due to it's weight and size but also as to not mess up craft it may be carrying.
- Extra Time: The added armored tip on the heavy lances does mean that it takes even longer to fire as one needs to open the metal shield before first before powering up. Though not seemingly long even a few seconds could mean life and death in a ship battle.
- Small Numbers: Due to the Imperium still being a minor part of the CIS only 10 of these ships were allowed to be built and maintained as more resources were directed towards the confederate main military machine.
History of Development: As the main cuersers line was finished the current navy requested the addition of a carrier based ship for any possible long range missions. Initially such a request seemed unnecessary since the Imperium fleet was never expect to fight outside the sector meaning ships could just jump to any battle without the need for a carrier. This lead to a small petition by Tythe to the CIS at large for some help in constructing such a large warship, which was easily granted also party due to their neighboring plants large and active fleet. Even so the ever present threat of a major war breaking out and the need for emergency landing facilities was enough to sway the views of the Princess leading to the commission of the 10 Vettore class warships.
This additional project also allowed for the development of an improved prow lance and along with a new idea on how to launch fighters. Unlike most ships the Vettore does not feature one main hanger bay but has small individual stationing areas along the broad sides of the ship. These can house a couple of fighters each and use a repulsion catapult system to launch to fighters from he ship in quick succession of each other.
Operational Use: The Vettore class ship operates in a similar manner to a Ventaor, a front line craft with decent anti-ship abilities anti-fighter weaponry and a sizable array of attack craft to use. Even so the standard Tythish tactics of using broadsides and the front mounted lance still come heavy into play when engaging with other ships of similar size. In a nut shell the Vettore is a jack of old trades master of non types of ship, though still leaning towards common Tythish building regulations of heavy defense.
