Strengths:
The development of the Coalition navy allowed Admiral Stahlmann and his advisors to essentially start from scratch when developing their fleet. This in itself was both a blessing and a curse, as they had nothing to work with, but weren’t hindered by the past either.
The second ship developed by the SSC was a frigate to complement the Frontier Class Corvette. This frigate’s role though would be the opposite. Heavily armed for its class, the Vigilance would be able to unleash heavy firepower to crush other escorts, but would need support from the Frontier to protect it from attack craft.
The ship was also designed to act as flagship on exploration missions for the Coalition. With this in mind, rather than fighters it carries transports for landing troops and supplies on newfound worlds. It is also quite fast and agile for its class and is able to escort larger transports against pirates.
The ship carries a crew of 500, with 250 soldiers or several thousand tonnes of supplies being able to be carried in its cargo bay.
The Vigilance is something of a bully. It’s more than able to beat up those smaller than itself easily, but in a fair fight, or if faced by a larger thread, it must turn tail and run or be destroyed. Further, attack craft are a weakness for which it relies on escort support to be protected as it is poorly equipped to deal with these attacks.

Strengths:
- Bringing the Party. The Vigilance is very heavily armed for a frigate. It can stand toe to toe with any frigate or corvette handily, and even with less well armed cruisers or carriers.
- Expedition. The Vigilance is designed to operate as the core of squadrons sent to patrol new worlds or scout ahead of the fleet. Combined with the Frontier class it can hold off practically any similar force of escorts and fighters.
- Space Cigar. With its long, low profile, the Vigilance provides a small target for enemy ships, and with its relatively high speed and agility it can mostly run from those ships it can’t destroy.
- Big Fish, Little Pond. Whilst the Vigilance is strong against enemy escorts, capital ships will have little trouble crushing it.
- Necessary Sacrifice. In the eternal game of balance, a fast and well-armed ship can’t also be well armoured. Even for an escort, the Vigilance has weaker shields and armour than normal, especially in the areas around the hanger and engines.
- Bomb Wary. Though well-armed with capital guns, the Vigilance has a pitiful amount of defence guns. It requires escorting from attack craft or flak ships if it is not to be preyed on by fighters.
