For Vil things were pretty simple. Born in slums of Nar Shadda he quickly became accustomed to life on the overcrowded streets. His parents being poor and broke meant that he had to take what he could get growing up. In doing so he would naturally begin to fall into a life of crime that was so common for anyone that called the planet home. So for Vil being a street rat and petty thief was just normal as he did whatever he could to get some more food to add to his meager starving diet.
Though after a while he would end up falling in with a group of kids his age that would slowly transform into a lowly street gang, as that was just what everyone did in the area, it just felt all too normal for Vil. They would roam around, cause trouble and get into fights. Robbing people who looked like good marks and scavving for scraps all in the pursuit of subsistence above everything else. As a result Vil never really paid too much thought over whether what he and his fellow cronies were doing was right or wrong. No thoughts of trying to escape from this or even realizing that he could be doing so much more and living better. The cage of slum life was firmly established in his mind and it's oppressing nature all but invisible to him.
Over time the gang he was in were growing more and more ambitious, and the desire to get into the good graces of a hutt lord and get a reputation begin to intoxicate the ambitions of everyone with in and that was where everything went wrong. In an attempt to steal a shipment of military grade weapons he and several of his friends would be attacked by a group of mercenaries that also wanted to steal the cargo. Vil would be only one spared as everyone else that took part in the heist was killed. Vil instead was taken by the mercenary group for questioning... The exact events were something Vil would actively try to forget even though it seemed impossible. The end result being that he would lose his tongue and be sold off as a slave by the mercenaries.
The following year as a slave was a dark part of his past as Vil would just be crushed by what happened to him and his inability to now talk and communicate was the cherry on top. He would just do his job feeling all hope was lost. Many days he would want to just give up on living though the harsh and cruel treatment of his slave masters would also help reinforce the strong fear he developed ever since the day he lost his tongue. Hope and a chance at Salvation would come to Vil despite feeling swallowed up by misery he know was force to live in. A Jedi investigating something would come across the group of slaves and take matters into their own hands as he would free the slaves. The Jedi would take a special interest in Vil both due to the pity they felt for him and because the Jedi was able to sense his dormant force sensitivity. So Vil would be offered to be taken in and potentially be trained in the art of the Force and Jedi ways. Vil seeing his second chance at life seized the opportunity. A new found optimism and joy filling him as he started to discover and hone his abilities in the force and for a chance to right the wrongs and be a better person as he now was able to look back at his life with a new found hindsight. -
Vil at first glance might appear to be a very timid and introspective person and that's because he is that now. Being unable to properly communicate forced him to withdraw and occupy himself more with his thoughts. Though now he's training as a Jedi it's becoming easier to try to reach out to people. Still he struggles with trust even with Jedi as a result of his pass so Vil will usual keep a lot of personal details of his life close to his chest as a result. Trying to get an idea of what he struggles and eats at him can be difficult. Vil has a strongly ingrained fear of conflict and people that he needs to overcome, often times the nature of this fear being of losing control and having no agency or power in situations. This can be problematic as it can trigger memories of his prior trauma which are often debilitating when his mind fixates on them.
Still despite his flaws there is one thing that burns brightly within the Padawan. A desire to repent for his earlier life and to move on and become a better stronger person. Even if his past tries it's hardest to tear him down and keep him binded to the ground he'll try to pull himself back up and try again. -
Strengths and Weaknesses
Street Smart - His prior life on the streets of Nar Shaddaa means he has a good intuition and common sense.
Powerful Desire to Learn - While he's pretty inexperienced in the usage of the Force, Vil wants to learn and improve leading to him putting 110% into his training of the force.
We Fall so we Can Get Back up - Failure is all to common to Vil but he'll try to pick himself and surpass his failings time and time again.
Tongueless - Having lost his tongue communication is naturally a massive obstacle he has to constantly live with. Vil as a result has to try other methods to talk to people such as sign language, writing and other means.
Fear and what it leads to - Traumatized by his experiences if Vil can be rather timid and averse to direct conflict. It also means that he's vulnerable to the whispers of the dark side and in situations where he feels he's losing control or has to his trauma is being triggered may result in him channeling the Dark side.
The Mind is Sacred - Vil is deeply uncomfortable with the idea of using the Force to affect the minds of others, and is terrified of the same happening to him. As a result he has a strong aversion force techniques such as telepathy and mind tricks.

Vil has barely anything to his name and while he now has 3 meals a day and a bed he still is rather light on belongings. He mainly travels wearing simple street clothes, a backpack, a datapad or two and a pair of headphones for music. He still has yet to get his lightsaber.
