A military version of a widely used Corellian freighter design, the Virgo-Class cruiser was readily available for local communities and governments the Galaxy over for use as a system patrol and customs vessel, military transport, and heavy dropship. Its heavy armor and shielding and speed allowed it to escape the increasingly better-armed pirates and privateers should it enter a fight that it could not reasonably end on its own, though its 4 docking clamps often gave it the benefit of flying with back-up from its embarked fighters. Stock, the docking tubes were made to work with top loading fighters such as the various models of TIE or TIE-based variants. However, they could be modified to provide safe transfer to a variety of starfighters, including vessels often used by Corellian Confederation patrols such as the Needler or Longsword-class interceptors. The vessel had ample space for passengers, though this space was usually used by the ship's onboard policing compliment, marines in the case of the Corellian Confederation. Because of its availability, the craft was often heavily modified and like most Corellian designs, often fell into the hands of particularly wealthy smugglers, pirates, and warlords.
