STRENGTHS
- Angular Hull: The Vorkar Class Star Destroyer makes use of two parallel angled hull sections to make up the primary body of the vessel. The sloped design of the hull allows for all of the Star Destroyers weapons to fire simultaneously without being obstructed by weapons or hull segments further forward, and the outward slope of the design allows for weapons to easily transition from forward firing to full broadsides.
- Dual Hangars: The hangars for the Vorkar Class are located towards the rear of either wing section, and are designed with an extensive opening. In combat situations, this wider opening allows for the Vorkar Class to deploy its entire compliment of starfighters in a single wave, rapidly increasing its reactionary defense time to incoming threats.
- Structural Hangars: While convenient in a defense engagement, the extended hangar size presents a risk to the Vorkar Class. The hull segments immediately around the hangars on either side of the ship are noticeably less armored that other sections of the vessel, as the hangar bay required the removal of several armored layers. While too small a target for larger vessels to target accurately, dedicated bomber attacks against these hull sections could potentially expose several sections of the ship to the void of space, or cripple it in very rare circumstances.
- Engines: The Vorkar Class has large, exposed engines on the vessel. Rather than numerous smaller engines, the Vorkar makes use of only three massive engine units, each one powered by its own reactor. Their size and position makes them attractive targets to enemy forces who may be able to flank around the vessel, and the loss of even a single engine will considerably reduce the effective speed of the Vorkar Class, and the loss of two will prevent the vessel from jumping to hyperspace.
The Vorkar Class Star Destroyer is an ancient design, originally created by the Sith Empire nearly one hundred years before the beginning of the Great Galactic War, but the original design was eventually replaced by the Harrower line, as the Vorkar Class came to be seen as too costly and expensive to produce, even compared to the notoriously cost heavy Harrower design. Following the discovery of a small fleet of these vessels by the Lords of the Sith, the design was taken to the organizations greatest shipbuilders to be modernized, enlarged, and refitted to serve the needs of the Lords of the Sith across the galaxy.
