Strengths:
Medical Corvette: The VT-LRC is an emergency response vehicle meant to function as an intermediate between where injury or accidents occur and more advanced medical facilities, that is to say, it is essentially a very high class ambulance. The ship itself, although large for this function is purpose built in order to serve as an intermediary between better medical facilities, or in emergency as a medical facility in it of itself. In order to better fulfill this function the VT-LRC comes equipped with the latest medical technology, two medical droids, one GE-MMP as well as a host of pretty much everything one could need in order to perform basic, and even slightly more advanced life saving procedures. It is not recommended that one perform brain surgery aboard the VT-LRC, but in emergency it could very likely be done. Most often the VT-ERC are sent from medical frigates to scoop up injured soldiers or civilians and bring them back, stabilizing them for further medical care.
Agile: For a ship of it's size the VT-LRC is rather agile. Though this is often not shown due to the nature of it's rather sensitive cargo, the VT-LRC is perfectly capable of moving and dashing about like a much smaller ship. It's powerful engines and it's strong thrusters allow the LRC to move with a far greater maneuverability than one would think. Obviously this is only done in emergency, and the ships passengers would likely come to harm if the ship required to do more...unique maneuvering, but in emergency it is a good feature to have on a medical ship.
Weaknesses:
Reactor: This common weakness in Vanir Technologies ships is not missing from the Varactyl class, though it is mitigated somewhat by the introduction of the VT-Nerve Helm System. The Reactor of the Licid must be constantly maintained, watched, and looked after when all of its systems are active. Though these occasions are rare, its entirely possible that through mismanagement the vessels reactor could spike out of control. Unlike in other vessels such as the Gundark Heavy Freighter, these Reactor spikes are unavoidable and will lead to the ships destruction. Luckily, the vessel has multiple escape pods.
Arms: Being a medical ship, the Licid Class Corvette is neither heavily armed, nor necessarily armored. Though thanks to it's shields and more cured nature the Licid can take a beating it is not apt to dish one out. The only defense that the vessel has is a single pair of Laser Cannon Turrets, both of which are pointed down towards the ground. These weapons are ordinarily used to secure landing position in emergencies. Other than that, the Licid is completely and entirely unarmed. It is often suggested that the Licid not travel alone if it is going into a war zone, and thus it is almost always accompanied by a squad of VT-Defense Drones.
Description:
The Licid-Class Corvette came about as an initiative by Vanir Technologies to bring about more supportive vessels within it's arsenal.
Though Vanir Technologies hosts a great amount of Civilian Ships including several freighters and diplomatic vessels it is a common theme that these ships are either still armed or well enough defended that they are meant for some sort of combat roll. Even the VT-Momentum, Vanir's most well sold Civilian ship is advertised as being able to outrun any bad guy at any time. With Alric Kuhn stepping down and Vanir Technologies furthering it's horizons with the Foundry Project, it was also decided that it's Naval Starship manufacturing capacity should be expanded.
This new expansion would see Vanir Technologies reach into a more niche market with the creation of Medical Ships and other more utility based vessels.
The first of these vessels to be created was the Licid-Class Corvette, or the Licid Class Emergency Response Corvette if one insisted on stating it's true name. The ships singular design purpose was to function as a mobile hospital in case a medical frigate could either not be dispatched in time or could not land at the required position. The Licid Class would disembark from the Medical Frigate and would head towards the target location, scooping up any victims while there and bringing them aboard. The team of doctors, as well as the medical droids would begin to stabilize the patients. If necessary, the Licid class came equipped with operating rooms and all equipment needed for more specific surgeries, however the nature of the vessel means that Vanir Technologies recommends it not be used as an actual hospital, and instead as an emergency response vehicle.
Of course, the Licid-Class is neither the first of it's kind, nor the only starship in the galaxy that serves this same purpose, it is however the first vessel of Vanir Technologies that can be called a "medical ship". This has rendered it with a unique status in the Vanir Technologies host and means that not many are aware of it's production. Due to this, Vanir Technologies offers a single, free Licid-Class Corvette any proven medical organization.
It is Vanir's hope that this will both improve the companies image and aid those in need around the Galaxy.
