Description:
The VT-Needle Disruptor falls in the same line of concept as many other products by Vanir Technologies, that being the disruption and penetration of Armor.
A current prevalence in the galaxy is the creation and forging of armors that are both immune to lightsabers, but also to blaster's, particle weapons, and even slugthrowers. This trend in the creation of powerful armors has been a rising tide within the galaxy. The Mandalorians, the Sith, and even the Republic have all forged powerful and ludicrously strong armors that save a wearer from all but the worst injuries. Even Vanir Technologies has followed this trend, creating armors that push a being well beyond the norms of what a sentient species if generally capable of.
Knowing this trend, and beginning the exploitation of it, Vanir Technologies has begun to design components and weapons technology in order to counter such things. A few of these devices are quite simple, such as the VT-Disruptor Lens capable of piercing Yuuzhan Vong Armor. Then there is the more complex SI-74 Anti-Tank Rifle, a particle beam weapon capable of destroying even heavy armored vehicles. There is also of course the more direct SI-Directed Charge, a small bomb designed to disrupt the physiology of the creature wearing the armor. These weapons were all designed to counter armors, and most of them work well, all but one however are unable to pierce certain metals or alloys.
This, of course is problematic for soldiers and people who do not have access to the force.
In order to combat this, Vanir Technologies began looking into the more...eccentric and illegal technologies of the galaxy; Disruptors.
Disruptors have been a known, and in many cases outlawed, technology within the galaxy for many millenia. These weapons work off of the same basic principals and power cells as blasters, albeit their use and charge is far more heavily defined and differs. Disruptors work on the concept of supercharging Tibana gas and forcing it into a different compositional projectile. This projectile is then shot out of the rifle at high energy. When the shot impacts it begins to excites the targets molecules and causes them to break their bonds, tearing apart the object molecule by molecule.
Disruptors came in many forms, Rifles, Pistols, and even heavy weapons that were capable of destroying entire starships. These weapons were not to be underestimated, and an argument could be crafted that they are perhaps the most dangerous handheld weapons in the galaxy. Due to this, and due to the weapons nature, Vanir Technologies very carefully began to experiment with the design of their own weapon.
Normally Disruptors are very vague weapons, though they are powerful, their drawbacks are a low ammunition count as well as short range. It should also be noted that a Disruptor's shots have a tendency to go haywire, careening off suddenly or striking more than the intended target. A single disruptor being capable of turning an organic being into ash. Knowing this, and taking it into account, Vanir Technologies began to hone the Disruptor.
What eventually came about was the Vanir Technologies Needle Disruptor.
This unique looking rifle is Vanir Technologies one and only foray into the land of disruptors and is perhaps the strongest handheld weapon the company would craft. On the surface the VT-ND is the same as any other standard disruptor. It has only a quarter of the range of a regular blaster rifle, a paltry six shots, and it's not really much to look at. Where this weapons differ is its design composition. The VT-ND, unlike regular disruptors is a pin point weapon. This means that when one is shot with the Disruptor, instead of being entirely vaporized, only the immediate impact area is effected.
This is achieved through the crafting of a magnetic field around the crafted projectile of the VT-ND. The weapon functions in the same way, save for crafting this small field. This field allows the Disruptor to not only be more accurate, but to also strike more consistently against armored targets. The weapons effects are the exact same as any other disruptor, save more concentrated. When it strike an armored foe the Disruptor round would excite the molecules of the armor, destabilize them, tear them apart, then move onto the flesh beneath, pulling through for devastating and utterly painful effect. Since disruptors tear apart molecules, this works on all forms of armor, even the heaviest beskar plate.
The differing effect of course is that the impact is localized, that means that the VT-ND will not vaporize someone into ash. Instead, it will vaporize a part of them into ash. The beams impact radius being a one inch diameter circle. If this beam were, for instance, to strike someones abdomen it would burn through their skin, organs, and everything else that might be there, leaving only a one inch diameter hole.
The more pinpoint nature of the VT-ND makes it a more...humane weapon, albeit barely.
All in all however, the VT-ND is not a new concept or even design, it is simply the application of an existing technology into a more refined state.
