It's unknown when, and ultimately where, Disruptor weapons originated. Some have speculated that it came about during the mythical age of the Old Republic, as the powers that be sought to create a more potent variant of blaster technology. Regardless of what the truth may be, the Universe was forever changed when such potent weapons took to the battlefield. Through their incredible power, nothing would remain of those poor, unfortunate souls that were struck by such indiscriminate weapons. It wasn't long that such technology was heavily restricted, and made outright illegal across the known galaxy. Even with the punishment of an instant death sentence, such dangerous weaponry was still utilized by the seedier elements of society; becoming the prime tool used by assassins and bounty hunters.
However, despite the incredible power of the Disruptor, it came with considerable drawbacks that made them seemingly impractical in the hands of a Soldier. While disintegrating an enemy unit, vehicle, or fortification was utterly effective - both in the theoretical and practical realms - it increased the amount of additional equipment that needed to be carried onto the battlefield. Bogging down a Soldier's combat webbing with a significant number of power cells, or plasma cartridges seemed wasteful from a logistical point of view. Why be bothered to carry a dozen extra cartridges, when a handful will do with standard blaster weaponry? It was not only ethical, in the sense that blaster's left something to identify and bury, but it was economical in terms of weight and production costs as well.
Yet, such factors were tossed aside as the Golden Company started to pursue the ancient secrets of Disruptor technology, that were then blended with a Thyrsian twist.
With all the parts of a disruptor in play, the Thyrsian Enclave swapped out three primary components to make the powerful weapon abhorrent to all living creatures, all the more deadly. The first of these components was the power source. Standard energy cells weren't able to meet the incredible requirements needed by the second generation sidearm. Therefore, they opted to use a rechargeable Rylith Crystal Power Source, which would store and inevitably harness the raw potential of the Sun - creating a vast wellspring of power from which the weapon could draw from. In addition to the swapped power source, the second generation pistol was upgraded with a pair of focusing lenses that would significantly enhance the lethality of the generated disintegration beam. The first of these crystals was the synthetically created Starburst Crystal, which would act as the primary focus of the beam's creation. By adding this artificial construct into the weapon, the particle bolt that would be generated would resonate on an entirely different level; which in turn would allow for the beam to bypass conventional deflector screens. Thus, with such a deadly weapon in hand, the Sun Guard would be the first to give birth to a new variant of Disruptors.
However, despite the raw and terrible power of these weapons, Disruptors came with an inherent weakness that lay within its constituent parts. To create a particle bolt that was capable of disintegrating matter, the process would need a significant amount of power and even more tibanna gas. Through their unholy fusion, whatever sources of power and canisters of gas would soon find themselves rapidly depleted during lengthy engagements - leaving the weapon starving for energy and fuel. Sadly, there wasn’t a way to counter this inevitable flaw in the weapon’s design. Instead, the Thyrsian Enclave sought to mitigate the issue by making their newest disruptor scattergun easier to reload - with both the canister and flexible power port's being located beneath the weapon for easy access.
All one needed to do was simply retract the armoured panel and eject the spent magazines, before slamming fresh ones in their place.
What made the “Phoebus”-pattern Disruptor truly special was that it was classified as a Class-D annihilation weapon - the epitome of Disruptor technology. While standard disruptors were still capable of disintegrating their victims… it was an imperfect process. Yes, the atomic bonds between molecules would be supercharged, essentially leading towards the target violently shaking themselves apart as their physical form was torn asunder. However, it appeared that several technologies - aside from the various plasmatic protective methods - found themselves populating the market.
Their introduction rendered many, if not all, standard disruptor weapon's useless. That was something that couldn’t stand - not when technological supremacy was the name of the Thyrsian Hierarchy’s game.
Thus, as the “Phoebus” was considered to be amongst the pinnacle of disruptor technologies - the bolts discharged by the weapon were capable of utterly deleting their targets on the atomic level. It would matter little how dense the material would be - as it’d vanish in the blink of an eye. There’d be little time for the energy to be shunted towards a ground agent - as the victim would simply vanish into thin air. While it was unlikely that anyone could survive a single bolt discharged from this weapon, those that did - either by receiving a glancing wound or by simply being lucky - would find themselves in tremendous agony. Their extremities would vanish in a flash of fiery light, but what remained would be seared - as if cauterized by a solar flare.
In addition to it’s specialized classification, the “Phoebus” was an utterly terrifying weapon due to the addition of a beam splitter - which forced the sole coherent beam into four smaller versions, before those beams were split even further by an additional module. When these beams were separated for a second time, they spread outwards in an incrementally expanding cone that threatened anything standing before the quartet of gilded muzzles. As one would expect, the weapon became wildly inaccurate at longer ranges - but as the scattersruptor wasn’t designed to be a marksman weapon that drawback mattered little in the grand scheme of things.
With the “Phoebus” in hand, the Thysian Sun Guard would once again reclaim their ancient legacy of being terrifying warriors on the battlefield, and undisputed masters of urban - or close-quarters combat.
