- Easy Charge Cells: The ammunition of the VW-864 are energy cells stored in magazine like clips. These clips carry a universal charger, allowing for the VW-864 to have its ammunition recharged in civilian homes or generators through the Galaxy.
- Reinforced Hull: The actual structure of the rifle has been built in such a way as to allow it to fire in spite of heavy damage or adverse conditions and protect the sensetive electronics inside.

- Durability: The VW-864 is a weapon that can be shot when soaked with mud or rusted through with sand. Come snow or shine, this blaster can, and will fire.
- Maser: Unlike an ordinary blaster, the VW-864 uses a maser projectile. Something harder to block with lightsabers, and performs better against shielded targets.
- The Guerillas Choice: With energy cells able to be quickly recharged in civilian settings, and a weapon capable of sustaining great damage, the VW-864 is perfect for guerilla warfare where conditions are often adverse.
- High Recoil: The VW-864’s recoil as it fires is higher than most other rifles. Compensating for this certainly is necessary.
- Weight: The VW-864 houses high powered maser components. They are dense and heavy, weighing down the rifle heavily.
The VW-864, or as it is nominally called the Volkswaffe Model 864 Assault Maser is the most recent development in weapons manufacturing. Spurred on by a perceived need to create a weapon durable and capable, and Prefsbelt Command offered to assist. Taking into account the recent defeat at the Battle of Dantooine and the looming threat of a Sith Imperial counter attack, Prefsbelt Command designed a rifle that was easy to use, easily produced and packed a punch.
Their product was the VW-864. The VW-864 is on paper a fairly average rifle. Heavy, with great recoil, but above average firepower and rate of fire. Somewhat stock standard when compared to most of the arms milled through the Galaxy, particularly of the mass produced variety. What makes the VW-864 stand out is the other capabilities it has. It is a weapon constructed to be durable and to maintain operating conditions in any environment. Atop that, ammunition for the weapon is hardly scarce with the magazine able to be charged in civilian and industrial outlets, making the rifle a candidate for urban warfare or guerilla operations.
The first batch of the rifles was provided to the 3rd Prefsbelt Auxiliary Police Command. A formation dedicated to the garrisoning of the Camp Holt mining facility. The rifle proved useful both as a defensive tool against animals and suppressive several attempted uprising by the camps labour force. Satisfied with the capability of their weapon, Prefsbelt Command began mass production, dispatching the weapon to the New Imperial Stormtrooper Corps and sending specs to COMPNOR.
