• Rotation: The VX-1 Trident Heavy Turbolaser is equipped with three barrels for each weapon superstructure, set within a rotating component. The turbolaser fires one barrel at a time at maximum capacity, greatly increasing its output at the risk of overheating the weapon. The barrel will then be rotated out of firing position, begin its heat venting process, and finally reload and recharge before being brought back into firing position. This system allows for each shot of the Trident to be at near maximum strength.
• Targeting Computer: Rather than relying on a central targeting computer, each Trident class weapon is equipped with its own targeting computer, allowing it to be directed to fire at targets from central command, but tracking and following the target itself.

• Bulbous: The Trident weaponry makes use of multiple heat sinks along the sides and rear of the weapon, creating a large, rounded and noticeable frame for the overall structure. This larger size makes the Trident vulnerable to enemy starfighters or bombers, and a direct hit can risk detonating the entire weapon with its internal ammunition storage.
• Single Shot: While each shot fired by the Trident is very powerful, the trade off comes from the risk of overheating the weapon, and possibly warping the barrels. To mitigate this risk, the rotating feature was added, but it did not remove it entirely. This severely limits the rate of fire for the Trident, and the constant risk of overheating the longer the weapon is used encourages its users to avoid protracted engagements.

Following the establishment of the new Royal Naboo Navy, a weapon capable of engaging the largest ships the planets greatest potential threat, the Sith Order, could deploy was required. Lacking the resources to match their adversary ship for ship, it was decided that a weapon needed to be developed to give each Naboo ship an edge over potentially more numerous enemy fleets. Maximum firepower deployed against targets in a steady, constant barrage to weaken and overwhelm a foe.
