Strengths:
Cortosis blade- The Walker's Friend is coated in cortosis which means that the blade is resistant to lightsabers. This cortosis coating also gives the blade the ability to be used to block energy based attacks such as blasters. Due to the special nature of cortosis, the blade can be used to redirect a blaster bolt into a completely different direction, such as the firer, if caught against the side of the blade and then moved properly.
Weaknesses:
Hidden weapon- The Walker's Friend is a cane sword which means it is a hidden weapon. While normally seen as an advantage, this fact works more against it that for it. The blade it harder to draw due to the need to put it into an unlocked position before it can be drawn. This also means that the weapon is rarely in a draw ready state and it takes extra time for the weapon to be drawn. The wielder must use some preemptive preparations to be able to ready the weapon as quickly as a normal blade would. If the weapon is not unlocked first it is unable to be drawn completely.
Description: Being of noble birth, Veleon was expected to behave a certain way by his mother [member="Juliette Dooku"] growing up. He began to rebel as a teenager and quickly found himself in need of a weapon during his outings that did not stick out. He quickly adopted the use of cane swords as they met his need for a hidden weapon and played into his training as a swordsman. His original blade was eventually broken against a particularly drunken, angry assailant, so he decided to have a pair of new ones created.
Veleon settled one having a pair of cane swords created with cortosis coating the blade. He settled on this for the dual properties of being lightsaber resistant and able to block blaster bolts. He was unsure if he would forced to defend himself against his mother and her lightsaber one day, and had almost lost his life once to being shot by blasters. So he obtained some cortosis on Katanos VII with some help and had a bladesmith back on his homeplanet of Serenno create the weapons for him. He had a pair of them made originally so he would have a spare in case something happened to the first, but he will eventually gift the second to his master Safiriel Bane.
The Walker's Friend are made simply. The sheathe component and hilt were created out of quality wood sanded to a perfect smoothness. High end leather was then wrapped around the hilt and a guard and pommel made from silver was added to hold the leather in place. Silver was used to around the rim of the sheathe portion as well. The blade component was made out of durasteel and then coated in cortosis to give it the unique properties of the material. The blade portion rests inside of the sheathe portion much the same as a normal sword. The silver guard was given a series of L shaped pieces that set into holes on the silver portion of the sheathe mouth. The silver component on the sheathe mouth can then be twisted to lock the blade into place so it can not be removed by accident and effectively turning it from sword into walking cane. The blade can then be released to allow it to be drawn by twisting ring so the L pieces can slide out through the holes.
