Walkers

So I had this idea for a Light Walker that doubled as a Cargo Lifter..., if I gave it arms to lift cargo would that be frowned upon?

I also thought about making a Light Walker that could get up and go, and have like...something similar to the Exo Suit dodges on Advance Warfare, and possible a small jump like they do on Lost Planet? Would any of that be frowned upon??

I think it sounds a good idea - intresting sort of armour.

I'd rock that, it's the new fashion bby!!

I just want to understand where the line is drawn from a walker/mech thing to a Gundam/mech thing.

As long as you don't mention the word Gundam or Mech, you might have a chance to not get it instadenied. :p

In all honesty though, if you make it more like a simple walker that has an arm or two to lift things up than a mech that is capable of the full range of human motion, it should be fine. After all, walkers are more like walking tanks, not humanoid warmachines.

Not sure about the dodging thing, someone else might be better at helping you there, though, imo, it might be pushing it a little.

Here is where I would deny it:
  • Is it 30+ feet tall?
  • Does it have legs, arms, stand upright, and have thrusters to fly and/or hover for prolonged periods of time?
  • Does it have an arsenal of weapons on its arms, back, shoulders, while also able to carry a giant gun?
  • Does it have full mobility and range of motion like a person?
  • Is it piloted by a single person?
If the answer to all of those is yes, I will deny it.

The first thought that came to mind after reading this was...Power Rangers...lol

These are really great guidelines though...I feel like these should be posted up somewhere by staff for all to see.

*Thumbs up, high five*

I'ma like...safe these somewhere.

Watcha think? These could help a lot of people, like me, understand where that line is.

While I have a good deal of experience in the factory, both as a user and as a moderator, take my post here with a grain of salt.

To me, the line between walker (which is Star Wars) and mechs/Gundams is largely one of mobility. Walkers in Star Wars are relatively slow, podding machines. The AT-ST can swivel around independently of its leg orientation, so the concept of a humanoid walker with arms and torso twist is not a considerable leap.

Gundams and things of their sort are humanoid, but the greatest difference is their maneuverability. Despite being five, ten, or twenty meters tall, these machines run around like they're normal humans. They jump and flip and do all sorts of intense acrobatic feats that are stretching disbelief far beyond its breaking point. It might look cool, but it does not really fit within the established lore and setting of Star Wars.

So if you make a walker that just so happens to have arms and torso twist, that's one thing. But if you start trying to add boosters to let it fly around or throw itself sideways to dodge fire... Well, expect that red stamp to get dropped on the design.

How would you feel on a submission with a walker with arms and big gun in those hands, super slow moving, and turns like a bantha then?

I also had an idea of a mech dragon that could be rode on similar to that of the Basilik War Droids, is that going to far as well? The Wookiee said something similar to most mechs resembling that of animals for the most part, rather than the Gundam styles mechs.
