Discussion Was Dooku even really a Sith?

He strikes me as more of a Jedi who dabbled very much so in the Dark Side than a full fledged Sith. He isn't pure evil like Palpatine, or a remorseless assassin like Maul. He's a bad person no doubt, a very bad one in fact, but his motivations seem pretty noble, or at least they fall outside the purview of perusing power for it's own sake like Palpatine. There's a part in the ROTS novelization where Dooku and Sidious talk about their new Empire and Dooku speaks of this hypothetical Sith empire as just a far more efficient way to run the galaxy, free of the corruption and bureaucracy of the Republic, not as the evil empire that Palpatine envisions. Dooku also tries to make a case for turning Obi-Wan to their cause, believing that if they provide a convincing enough argument Obi-Wan will turn to their side and see reason, but Sidious says he is too blinded by the Jedi ways and he must be killed as such. With all this said, was Dooku really a believer in the Sith code? Or was he just a disillusioned Jedi who saw the Dark Side as a means to an end to achieve his greater goals?

He may not have been a traditional Sith. He may not have been a "good" Sith. But Dooku was a Sith. Whether he was a bridge used by Palpatine to get him from Maul starting the ball rolling to Anakin bringing his vision to completion doesn't much matter. As stated he was taken by Sidious as an apprentice and bestowed with the Darth title. Therefore. Sith.

The fact that he was a long time Jedi certainly molded his view of the galaxy and likely was the reason that Sidious felt he was expendable once he found Anakin, but by the same measure Vader could be questioned as to whether he was "really a Sith". Both were Sith, neither achieved the true potential of a Sith apprentice. Another question might be whether Vader and/or Tyranus truly desired to be the Master. Did Sidious choose apprentices that were flawed in a manner that he knew they would never surpass him?
