SPECIAL FEATURES
- Allows asteroids and space debris to be reorganized and moved, particularly used for forming planetary and space outpost defenses
Strengths:
- Can be used to effectively form defenses around a space outpost, base, or even a planet
Weaknesses:
- Takes a considerable amount of time to form large-scale defenses. Poor idea for last-second defense system
- Extremely difficult to be installed by the consumer
- Very expensive to both purchase and have installed by a certified Wayne Tech team or contractor
A concept that Judas drew up while at the famed Mrlsst Academy, M.A.D.S is a dream that has now become reality through the newly-founded Wayne Technologies. It possesses a rather simple design with the downside of being extremely difficult and expensive to put into practice. After several incidents involving the system's central computer module, the Applied Sciences division at Wayne Tech was finally able to produce a working version of the astral defense system.
M.A.D.S works the following way: for example, let's say that a small space outpost is in need of defenses. First, the surrounding area will be saturated with asteroids and space debris through either natural processes or outside intervention. Each object will be outfitted with an array of magnets, microthrusters, ion rockets, and solar panels. The solar panels provide power to high capacity power cells that go on to power the aforementioned devices. In areas where solar energy is scare or nonexistent, the panels will be swapped out for more power cells. Each piece of debris is then equipped with an encrypted GPS microcomputer that is hooked up to the magnets, thrusters, and so forth. Each GPS signal is relayed back to the central computer. This device is, by extension, given control over the asteroids/debris/etc. The computer is outfitted with custom software that allows the consumer to form the aforementioned structures into virtually any shape imaginable. Going back to the previous example, say the consumer wanted a dense asteroid shell to form around the outpost. They would spend a considerable amount of time developing and saving this configuration. Upon execution, the asteroids would then fire their ion rockets and begin to move into position. Upon reaching the desired location, paired electromagnets on different pieces of debris would turn on and lock the debris into place. In configurations where debris is more spread out, the micro-thrusters will keep the structures in place. Also, by consumer preference, asteroids can be outfitted with shields, mines, turrets, etc.
However, M.A.D.S does have some downsides. It takes a while for the debris to reach its destination, making it ineffective in last-minute or emergency circumstances. It is also nearly impossible for the consumer to install themselves due to the complex nature of the system. Unfortunately, it is also quite expensive to contract Wayne Technologies to install the system for you, making it a lose-lose situation in this regard.
