Weapon Question

Hi judges, I've created a combination dual-bladed lightsaber and Yuuzhan Vong amphistaff in a thread. Is this something sufficiently weird enough to warrant needing a development thread and approval, or okay to run with it?

The factory is totally optional, but if you feel the need/want to submit it, you are free to. Depending on the submission and what it entails you may be asked for development. I cannot say if it will or will not without seeing it first.

Pretty sure the (original)one sith had something very similar, though single bladed.

[member="Reverance"] had a lightsaber made from a vong creature, though not an amphistaff. Looking at it and the dev behind it might give you an idea of the workload involved. You'd be looking at more (just on concept, it could change depending how the sub reads) if I were the judge because you're combining two fairly powerful weapons into one.

[member="Alcuin"], I see, but the difference is that I the amphistaff was already mine, I simply tweaked it to accept lightsaber crystals. Since the amphistaff itself is canonically impervious to lightsaber energy, to my mind it's more a matter of RPing it out than developing it for anything other than personal use. I'm looking to create something unique, or at least something I haven't seen yet.

Per RP Judge [member="Braith Achlys"] the factory thread would be optional. If a Factory judge thinks it's needed I'll create a development thread, otherwise I'm hoping the IC RP thread I've created and am currently writing in suffices.

So I reread this... and a thought occurred to me. An amphistaff is a living creature. Shaped to act like a weapon... but living none the less. Ask yourself this. Is there a way to shove a crystal down its gullet, shoot a beam from its hind innards through the crystal so that said beam can focus and shoot from its mouth? Preferably without killing it.

I can almost guarantee you that the first time you use it in an PVP thread, it can and should be reported for things [member="Vulpesen"] pointed out. I am shocked I'm agreeing with him, but such is life. I don't particularly see your thread answering those questions. Nor do I see how you can feed and focus the Force into a vong creation. Especially not in 4 posts, which is minuscule at best. Can you claim it? Yes. Will others respect and accept that claim with so little visible effort put in? No.

In the end, it's your story, do what you will. The Factory isn't compulsory, after all. But there are boundaries of logic and cannon precedent, and you are flirting pretty loosely with them. Don't be surprised when someone calls you on it.

An amphistaff is impervious to lightsaber energy. From everything I've read, the Force can be used to do pretty much anything from healing to harming to killing to travelling to whatever else the author needs to do at the time. Luke Skywalker used it to shape and control a black hole. I don't think it's a massive use of "handwavium" to say the practical application of the Force to a living thing that can't be harmed by lightsaber energy is upsetting the balance of things too much. Clearly if no one wants anything to do with me or an RPJ or admin steps in I'll want to make adjustments, but given all the crazy-remarkable things that go on around here I really don't see where this unique weapon tilts the balance, especially when it hasn't been tested in combat yet.

The amphistaff has a weakpoint. Its not completely impervious. If a bendy stop near its head can be cut, then its guts a re very likely to be fried. And you can't use the force to heal or shift its organs since the force can't touch it.
