- Armor Piercing: With stopping power deemed illegal in most systems, nothing short of heavy plated beskar or other heavily armored targets could take direct hits from the yellow blaster bolts. Blasts from these Mandalorian WESTAR blaster pistols typically had enough stopping power to put even a Mando in beskar out of commission, transferring enough energy over armor plates to stop hearts, cause muscle spasms, and knock out wearers of the Mandalorian armor which gave it the nickname "Nuhoy" which when translated to basic meant "Sleep"
- Low Rate of Fire: When compared to other heavy blaster pistols, the WESTAR Blaster Pistol has an incredibly low rate of fire, usually necessitating the dual wielding style often seen in Mandalorian commandos and bounty hunters.
- Inaccurate: By default, WESTAR blaster pistols are very inaccurate which makes killing blows difficult to land on targets in heavy armor.
- Reload: The WESTAR blaster pistol required the use of both a power cell which was located in the pistol's grip, and a gas canister which was located in the angled portion under the blaster's barrel. While the gas canister could last for at least a hundred shots, the power cell would typically last only 20, meaning the blaster had to reload much more often that a typical blaster pistol.
Popularized a little over a thousand years ago, the design for the WESTAR 35 hasn't changed much outside of materials. Slow to fire and with enough stopping power to put down a Mando Commando if you were a great shot the blaster pistol never lost favor in the eyes of Mandalorians. While not designed to be dual wielded, its relatively light weight and incredibly slow fire rate make it a popular way to use this weapon. While dual wielding made it harder to hit targets, the blaster had enough stopping power that it often only needed one torso or limb blow to make its target either keel dead on the spot or incapacitate them for long enough to finish the job.
