What a hunk of Junk

Undisclosed Planet
Spaceport

"Piece of crap," Zooey grumbled as she turned away from her ship. She couldn't understand why she was still flying this thing. It had so many issues that she really ought to just get a new one. This was a special ship though as her father had fixed it up for her. He was a ship snob unlike her. She could fix them of course as she used to watch her father and eldest sister. It just wasn't her passion.

Sighing she turned from her ship. There had to be a repair shop around here that she could use to get the parts that she needed to fix this thing. Once she got home she would take it to her father to fix. Zooey would never dare take it anywhere else unless of course Sophia was closer. Her sister was just as good as their father but now a days she was so busy.

As she exited the spaceport Zooey came across a repair shop right next store which was perfect. The idea of wandering around on a planet she was unfamiliar with was not something the red head was too keen on doing. The plan was to go in, get her stuff and leave.

Shadow stood at the desk of the repair shop. He was just trying to get some simple cooling unit so he could get out of here.

As he stood there he just thought about his future. His long blonde hair fell on his shoulders. It was messy as usual. He didn't know what exactly to do anymore. He knew what he wanted but he didn't know how to get there.

After a few more minutes of waiting a young lady walked into the shop. Shadow couldn't help but throw a smirk at her, as she was pretty. However he kept his head down. He just wanted to get his stuff and leave.

Iris Tyrad

Iris had landed at the spaceport roughly 5 hours ago, mostly so he would be able to relax and concentrate, he never liked flying, he especially hated hyperspace. "Hmmm, two Durasteel plates, Motor, 1 bar of enriched Uranium..." He whispered to himself, making mental notes for what he'd need for a... 'project' he was working on. Knowing he had none of these parts in the ship, Iris would have to do what he hated, go outside, and even worse socialise.

Exiting his ship Iris scanned the immediate area for any sort of repair shop, mechanics, or even a weapon stores. Eventually Iris spotted a repair store, "Bingo" Iris muttered, he was always fascinated on what parts different stores had, and the best thing was, they all had an illegal item storage, that Iris loved to get his hands on.

After a quick jog towards the store Iris noticed another person was approaching the same store, I fact it was girl, instead of pushing his way through like many people would, Iris held the door open for the woman. 'Like a sir' Iris thought to himself, smirking as he did so.

As another customer entered, Shadow sighed. He was getting impatient, as the worker was in the back of the shop searching for the correct model he needed.

He looked over at the girl and the new man who entered in behind her, "Don't count on leaving here anytime soon, this guy is slower then a droid low on oil."

"Don't count on leaving here anytime soon, this guy is slower then a droid low on oil."

Realising this man was talking to him, and the woman, Iris quickly looked up towards the man, chuckling as he did so. "Aha, I don't mind, I have time to waste" He replied, this was Iris' only reply, he wasn't feeling particularly talkative or social today, so he quickly went back to looking at his feet, solving the math for what power his motor would have to be.

"Thank you," she smiled to the man whom opened the door for her. She knew that having woman in a repair shop was still different and she could only bet that they thought she didn't know what she was doing. Zooey unfortunately knew way too much about ships for her own good.

Sighing she stood in back of the line as she already knew what she needed was way too uncommon to be up front with the newer models. The line was long and Zooey was impatient. She didn't wish to deal with this. She just wanted her stuff and to go. "I wish I was as patient as you."

Seeing the girl was impatient, and hearing her complain, Iris decided to see if she wanted to join the queue in front of Iris. "Ughh, do you wanna..." He offered holding out his hand, inviting the woman to the place in front of him. Iris had never been confident around girls, especially not attractive ones, his type or not. The only reason Iris had offered the space was because he still didn't know what he wanted, but this woman looked as if she knew what she wanted and was anxious to leave.

Shadow just sat silently, watching the impatient young lady. She reminded him of her when he was younger. Finally, the scruffy store clerk returned with a large box. "This is the cooling unit sir," he said roughly. "That'll be five thousand credits."

Shadow nodded. He pulled up his datapad and completed the transaction. He picked up the large box and started making his way out. Suddenly he stopped. He decided to check the box. Putting on the floor he opened it. Empty, as he thought since it was so light.

He turned to the clerk, "What is this?" The others in the store were getting a little nervous. Shadow was ready to rip this con man in two, but he stopped himself. "Keep the credits and your box," he said angrily.

He walked out of the store and made his way to his ship. He sat at the bottom of the stairs leading into and sighed.

"2.5 HP motor would cost roughly 3,500 credits" Iris thought, sighing, Iris continued his calculations, finally coming to the conclusion that the motor, alone cost 3,500 credits, all of which didn't have. "God damnit!" Iris swore at himself, pushing his way out of the store. He didn't fancy wasting his credits on a box of air anyway, like the previous man had.

As the door opened Iris noticed the man who'd been ripped off was now sitting on the the steps of what seemed to be his ship, not looking particularly happy, but who would? Iris felt sympathy for the man, he knew how it felt to lose credits, credits you may never earn back.

When Iris was about 4 metres from the man, he started to talk "Hey, I heard you wanted a cooling unit?" Iris continued before allw the man to answer "if you wanted you could come check my ship, I might have one lying around?" This was an unusual act for Iris, but he did it for the putty he felt for the man.

"Oh no, it's alright. I can wait." She grinned. Zooey hadn't meant for anybody else to hear her grumbling about having to wait. The young lady really was just angry that she had to stop and fix her ship. She just wanted her things to work. Zooey couldn't understand why things couldn't just work. "It's not like I have anywhere to be anyway."

She couldn't help but jump a little when the man at the counter began arguing with the clerk. Zooey didn't want any trouble especially in a strange place like this. The argument quickly was over though and the man left without what he had come in here for. She wondered if he really didn't it or maybe he didn't have enough credits for it.

Shadow walked behind the man slowly. As they walked he shifted his gaze to see the young girl still standing inside the shop. He slowed down, "Hey, hold up for a moment."

Shadow moved away and back into the shop. Politely he tapped her shoulder. "This guy is a con-man, and I doubt he has what you need." He motioned towards the door, "After I finish getting my cooling coupling I am returning to my ship, perhaps I ca find something you need there?"

As the man suggested, Iris led the way, his ship was only 50 metres where there shop was, but still to get there you had to push through crowds of people. Finally, they reached Iris' modified YT-1930 transport, it was in quite a state, as if had just come back from a war, in some aspects it had. "Here she is!" Iris exclaimed referring to his ship, he began punching numbers into a pad and as he finished pressing the last digit the cargo bay door dropped. This revealed a dusty, ill lit cargo bay, much smaller than the cargo bay on a stock YT-1930 Transport, but still full of various pieces of tech.

"Here take a look around" Iris said, nodding in the direction of the cargo bay.

"That would be wonderful!" Zooey turned around and smiled at the man whom had tapped her on the shoulder. The last thing she ever wanted to do was pay far too much for parts. "I could help you install it if you wish. I'm a little bit of a mechanic."

Following the guys back to one of their ships she was led to the cargo bay which was full of old parts. It was about now that she wished she had paid more attention to ship parts. What she was looking for was something that the woman was quite sure that they wouldn't have. Still she began to dig around. "You have like everything in here. Very prepared."

Shadow and the girl walked back to the ship and, like her, Shadow looked around at everything. "You seem like a junker, the good kind though," he mused.

He looked at the two and felt they could be trusted. Neither seemed too dangerous and both were polite. "I'm Shadow, in case you were wondering," he introduced. He then started shifting around, hoping to find his cooling unit.

"I'm Iris," Iris started in reply to [member="The Shadow"] introducing himself "ughh, by the way, Shadow, most of the good, working stuff is at the back" Iris stood on his tips toes and pointed over all the piles of junk to where he was about. Then, Iris looked towards the other person in the ship, the woman from the shop, "Hey, miss, you know what your looking for?" He questioned the woman who was snooping around one of the piles.

Shadow gave a small nod and moved through the clutter to the back. He examined everything, trying to find the proper unit he needed. He did. The cooling coupling was large but not to heavy for the rogue master to carry.

He walked back out to find the other two. He put the coupling down and eyed the women. "Need any help finding something?" He gave a small nod to Iris, "Iris seems like a mechanic himself, as am I."

"Thanks," she grinned as she turned to face the guys whom were helping her. "Well, I'm not sure. There seems to be a lot wrong with it and this time I can't be sure what the problem is. I think I may need a new engine which I know you don't have. I patch it up every now and again but well than I have these issues. I may be better just getting something brand new. It might help if you look at it first."

She was kind of an engineer but not really. Zooey didn't know as much as her father or these two she reckoned but she was learning. It would be nice to have some help.

"Follow me!" She smiled as she turned to lead the two mechanics to where her ship was located. It wasn't super old but at the same time it wasn't the new fangled things that everyone else had. It was seriously a fixer upper which her father had thought would be great for his youngest. "I'm Zooey by the way. It's nice to meet you both and thank you so much for all of your help."

The walk didn't take long before they were at her Washburn-class Medium Transport. She loved her ship but at the same time hated it because of all the help it needed. She really wished for something more reliable. "I know she's not much but she's mine."
