What are your hobbies?

We've seen quite a bit of growth in members over the past few months. Some of us hang out in the skype chat room, but not everyone is always there. So instead of us all being strangers, this is a thread to get to know your fellow faction members!

Tell us what your hobbies are. What usually occupies your time besides work (and besides roleplaying, we all know about that one). What do you do for fun?

First Order Planetary Defense Forces
Besides building a whole armored battalion from the ground up, I do some World War Two reenacting, and streaming video games. As well as making OCs for many different uses.

I have many hobbies but I'll try to narrow it down.

I really enjoy camping and hiking (Though I don't get out as much as I'd like). I'm a pretty big WWII geek and love firearms, I own an M1 Garand, that's pretty sweet. In addition, board games are a favorite of mine, things like Axis & Allies, Risk, as well Video Games. I play a wide variety from Counter Strike: Global Offensive to Company of Heroes. I like shooters, Real Time Strategy Games, honestly just about anything. Oh, and I play War Thunder as well.

I'm a composer (read: starving artist) in the real world. So on top of writing prose (and the occasional poetry), I also write music. Some of it is out there for folks to check out if any care to do so.

I've always been big into games. Overwatch, Rocket League and Smash Bros. Melee have dominated my time recently but I'm hoping to get back into some larger scale, solo things again soon. Board games are pretty rad too. Dominion has been a serious contender for my all-time favorite recently. And then there's D&D... I'm getting a little obsessed with it... But only a little!

I like beer.

I've never played Axis & Allies but I've enjoyed many a Risk game. Unfortunately it's gotten to the point where I can no longer play Risk with my friends/family. I won too many times which got my friends salty. Now everyone just automatically gangs up on me and takes me out first. It's really hard for me to make allies in that game now.

Ever played Diplomacy? It's basically Risk without the luck factor - there are no dice. It's awesome, but my friends are too high-time preference to sit through a game.

I love musical theater but don't get to sing or act as much as I used to. Camping and hiking is fun, and I belong to a frontiersman camping group... period correct outfits included. Dressing up is half the fun, the other is the camping, and tomahawk and knife throwing we do.

I am also a nerd and voracious reader of non-fiction and leadership development types of things. I am also currently working on book that I hope to see published some day, but I have to actually finish it first.

I have not! I see it on the shelf when I visit the game store near my house. Might be worth looking into! (I too rarely play risk anymore, or even Axis and Allies, I'm a menace as the Axis powers of Germany and Japan and as such my family stopped playing with me. Even with the "Optional rules" in favor of the allies I still manage to crush them). I've played games of Axis and Allies that take literal days to finish. And that's playing all day with food breaks! haha

yeah sadly I can't play Axis and Allies with anyone, I'm too good, and people even if they gang up on me, can't beat me. Heck I even make it 3 on 1 as I play the Axis most of the time, but still people can't seem to just realize to get me into too many wars I can't handle it. Normally everyone I play with take turns attacking me, so like the Soviets attack me on the west when they fail, England starts or tries to keep what is left of Africa since by then I normally push them out. and the US player never gets involved in Europe because they "don't know how to" so I wipe them with Japan the push Japan into the USSR lol

Reading, mostly Sci-Fi and Fantasy (surprise) and history (most recently, focused on the 15th and 16th centuries). Bitching about work while at work. Gaming, in many different varieties, from the vidya to oldschool board wargames (AH's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, for example). Drinking to excess in order to forget the growing sense of malaise in life. A bit of tabletop RPG when I can (Dark Heresy, DnD, etc.) and sleeping.

My actual hobbies outside of here and sleeping, include; video games, and writing. I used to be quite the avid pop culture person and still try to keep up but these days I find myself mostly focused on writing. Video games when I get the chance usually ends up being the Sims and building houses there. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, I've played Counter Strike Source and Global Offensive, World of Tanks, World of Warships, Armored Warfare and several dozens of others. Looking forward to Civilization VI!

I hear ya, [member="Valessia Brentioch"]. I love sleep, and I will nap whenever I find time to do so :D

I used to play some MMOs, but nowadays, I tend to play Sims 3, Stardew Valley, and just started Secrets of Grindea. I like lighthearted games. I also enjoy watching Korean drama shows, they are a lot of fun.

Some other random facts: I like tea, cats, I'm a huge project runway fan, I love makeup and shopping.

You guys ever heard of Hearts of Iron 4?
I actually had considered buying it, but I watched a few of my friends play it and got lost. I'd need someone to walk me through the concepts as there are a lot of complicated parts to it.

It is pretty complex, but it's also pretty accessible for a Paradox game, all things considered. Only takes a few games to get into the swing of it, especially if you start with the easy-as-piss nations (Germany/UK/USA/USSR).

I might try putting up a thread in the Gaming forum and seeing about a leaner game when I get back to land.
