What do major factions do with planetary governments?

I've been wondering for a while now, and I decided to finally ask. What do major factions do with local planetary governments after conquering a planet and adding it to their faction?

For example, in the prequel trilogy, I get the idea that planets in the Republic still have their own governments, like how Naboo still has a Queen and all that. But of course, this could be a different case for each faction here. So I guess I'm just asking members of the current major factions what they do when they add a new planet to their ownership. Do they allow the local planetary government to continue ruling locally, do they have a faction-wide government all the planets are forced to adhere to, or do they put new officials in charge of each planet?

The Catharian Hegemony installs a loyal Viceroy in place of the former planetary leader. The surrendered military personnel are taken back to Cathay for processing.

Force Sensitives are carted offworld to Cathay, and a large garrison of Catharian Army Troopers are put in to keep the order.

Dunno about everyone else.:)

In the Republic, member worlds maintain their own government, appointing Senators to represent the planetary/system/cluster government and electing Representatives to the Assembly to represent the people at the highest level.

Corporate Authorities within the Darkwire faction take control by manipulating their way into power, or outright buying their way in, from there they'll take total control over the government with the Direx Board, a committee of 55 companies, overseeing the planet and it's natural resources.

The Imperium will follow up annexation with a planetwide census, followed by an analysis of the political movements on the world. Parties with violent ideologies are excluded from consideration and ostracized by the media. Once that is done, all citizens that wish to vote will poll for the candidates of whatever remaining parties have sworn to remain within the Imperium upon being elected. The winner will run the planet as they see fit, and will represent the world in the House of Lords to vote on legislation.

This can change from planet to planet. The general goal of the Imperium is to establish democratic rule, but also rule that will adopt the ethics and values of the nation.

For the Sith Empire it depends a lot on the manner of the overtaking and the disposition of the governor toward serving under the Empire. If they submit willingly and serve faithfully, they would likely be allowed to keep their position. However, if they resist, the faction is likely to bring their force down upon the planet and depose the sitting ruler for a more fitting one. We would want to come to an arrangement everyone can come to terms with.

What planetary Governments?

Pretty much this. OPA tends to approach each world on a case by case basis. Is there a government here already? Is anyone writing for it? Is it compatible with our theme? Once those kinds of questions are answered we decide if the old regime would fit better as an ally, enemy, or wouldn't care either way. Planets without established canon governments tend to be either developed by members or left as lawless wastelands.
