When most people look at a dominion, they just see an activity where the faction is required to methodically reach those 100 posts before calling it quits.
I'm here to tell you something; that concept is wrong.
Yes--you need 100 posts before you're qualified to acquire a planet but it doesn't have to end there. Nor does that need to be the reason. I am here to tell you that achieving 100 posts and acquiring a planet is merely a result, not the goal nor the reason.
So what are dominions?
They're a framework for roleplay. A dominion can have any story, any objective (or lack thereof), and can be conducted however you'd like. If we want to hold a tournament as a dominion we can, if we want it to be a bar thread, that works too. If people just want to run around and do crazy stuff? Well that's possible.
Well, Sam, you're probably just trying to get us to post to dominions!
I am. I won't deny that but if you're here to roleplay, this is where we're roleplaying. Everyone has an opportunity to participate in a dominion and I'll personally slap someone down for trying to leave you in the dust because they're just here to reach 100 posts for us.
Then what's the whole point? Why do we want a planet?
Ignore the map, that influence cloud isn't important. Very large factions like the Fringe, Black Sun, Omega Protectorate, and others have all died with a rather large cloud in their hands. So screw it. A planet is an incentive, it's a tool for imagining a place for your character to be and allows us to write compelling plots and immerse ourselves into the story.
But it's an investment of my time, I'm not sure if I can commit.
If you only post once or twice? So what. Just enjoy yourself, if you want to ride out the entire story then go for it.
These threads just don't interest me. I'm not sure how to fit my character into the stories!
Then change the story. Make it something else, add an objective, and get people outside of the faction to join in if that's what it takes. You're free to join our dominions on any character you'd like, to participate however you'd want to. We're here to have fun, so please, have fun.
But I'd really appreciate it if you'd roleplay in our dominions. We're trying here to give a place for people to roleplay, with an incentive and reward, and dominions are the best way to do that. So don't look at it as a the objective being the dominion itself, it's just the platform in which we're roleplaying.
