Katarine had been deep undercover for almost six full months in the glitz casino city of Canto Bight. As a Jedi Investigator she was used to long undercover assignments but this one had been particularly frustrating for the woman. Her target was an Imperial Moff who held a datadisk that contained information on one of the most notorious serial killers the last century had ever seen. This case was part of an ongoing investigation into Black Marsh Prison, which Katarine was currently working. What made this case frustrating wasn't the nature of the assignment. Kat was comfortable in the underworld and in fact spent so much of her time among criminals she felt like she fit in better with them than she did regular Jedi. The issue with this case was that Moff Tolsa was proving difficult to get close to. He rarely left his job and when he did he frequented gentlemans clubs, but always under heavy security. He seemed to prefer to pay for his girlfriends and be done with them, and had no working friendships that Katarine could infiltrate. Howwever the Jedi was not ready to blow six months of work and give up that easily so she'd devised a plan. Her target was a datadisk containing the information. The problem was the Moff would be onto her the second she got her hands on that disk so she would need a fast getaway. In this realm of the galaxy that could be a problem because The Galactic Alliance wasn't always popular. Luckily though she still had some contacts in the underworld and had called in a few favors. If evertyhing went according to plan her extractor would be in the club tonight. He had been given a picture of Kat and told that things were going to get crazy and rough real fast. There was just no way to get close enough to that disk without the chaos so Kat hoped whoever her contact sent was ready for a tough job.

The music in the club was pulsing and all around half dressed women were serving drinks, laughing at the least amusing comments, and generally stroking the male ego. It was exactly the atmopsher Moff Tolsa craved and Kat was happy to see that he was in the audience tonight, like he had been the last four nights. He was seated at a booth and Kat noticed two of his security team standing off in the distance. The Moff liked to have space when he watched the girls dance and that would work to Kat's advantage.

She took her position and waited for the music to start and the lights to illuminate her on stage. The announcer spoke into the mic as the crowd started to wolf whistle.

"Next up to the stage, please give your warmest welcome to Ruby!"

Kat started to gyrate with the music, smiling and winking at the crowd, while her deep green eyes scanned to make sure the Moff hadn't moved. She twirled around her dancing pole and wiggled, slipping her garment down her shoulder as the crowd screamed. The dance would take her to the edge of the stage, where she'd pick up a credit chip some eager man was trying to give her, and thank him with a giggle and a smile. As the music pulsed she slid her skirt down and the wolf whistling continued. The next moment her high healed self was off the stage and making it's way to the booth where the Moff sat enjoying the show. The bouncers in the back tensed but gave eachother a smirk. "Ruby" had been working here a few months now and she was wild. The club had a strict no touching policy but after trying to tame "Ruby" the bouncers had given up and let her do her thing. She was good for business afterall.

She wiggled and gyrated her way to the Moff and soon was on his lap, dancing while the crowd roared at her brazen. She leaned in and slid her arms into the Moffs jacket, and then pulled it off him, and onto herself, standing again and twirling while the crowd cheered. The jacket, she knew, had the data disk in the right inside pocket and was always on the Moffs person. She closed the jacket seductively around her and flipped her hair at him, then pulled her shirt out from under the jacket. The Moff grinned and she winked at him. She was tempted to glance and see her her extractor was ready because things were about to get crazy. There was no way the Moff would let her keep the jacket so she would have to cut and run the moment he realized this wasn't part of the dance.

With a final seductive grin she climbed back on the Moffs lap and whipped her hair around again. The next moment she opened the jacket and the Moff smiled for a full three seconds, before he saw that the glitter body paint she had on to hide some of her chest was in the design of the Rebel Alliance. He looked up at her confused for half a second and she winked at him. The next moment she had pushed him down past her, hitting his head on the table and lept over the booth. Wrapping the jacket around her she heard him shout,

"STOP HER!"

And just that fast, the chit hit the fan. From the bar, he'd been eyeing Miss Ruby in between drinks. He was just beginning to cool himself off from the hot Canonican evening when Tolsa's dance turned into a robbery. Harvey slipped a breathy feth, knocked back a big mouthful liquor, then shoved off from the bar just in time to greet one of the Moff's security guards with an elbow to the temple. Shouts of "You gotta pay for that!" mixed with "She's not alone, get him!" rang out in the mixture of screaming dancers and whooping patrons as Harvey dashed through the crowd.

Just out back, Harvey's unmarked police speeder was waiting for them with its engines already hot. She'd beat him there unless someone caught her on the way out. A few of the bouncers seemed to side with the Imperials, while others took their chance to show a little resistance and push back. Fists were thrown and it took Harv his all not to add a few punches into the mix. Instead, he cleared the last set of tables before the back entrance and kicked one over, sending glasses, food, and a losing game of Sabaac onto the floor. The door slid open with a reluctant hiss, and as soon as he'd stepped into the alley, Harv drew his blaster and bashed the door panel with the handle.

"We gotta get the hell outta here, Ruby," Harvey said to the Jedi-turned-stripper. He climbed into the speeder and when she was ready, he floored it. The Imps weren't nearly as prominent in the Corporate Sector as they used to be, but Canto had always been a favorite spot for Moffs and governors. He just hoped Tolsa didn't have a garrison of stormtroopers who weren't on the DireX's payroll...

It was chaos. She dodged behind a booth to avoid some blaster fire and was headed for the backdoor. She could see her contact, fighting his way to the outside as well. She was ahead of him and would reach the speeder first. She was about out the door when her path was blocked by a big body guard. She doubled back, edging near the bar and watching as the body guard cracked his knuckles. A second latter the big man pulled a vibroblade and smirked at Kat. Her outfit left little to the imagination and there was no way she was hiding her own blade on her person.

"I didn't know strippers worked part time as thieves."

"Hey a girls got to eat." Katarine smirked at the man, and then grabbed a plate from the bar, sending it flying at his head. He ducked and she slid under his legs, racing for the back door. Once she was outside in the sharp night air she flung her hand out towards a protocol droid that looked as if it had broken down next to the back entrance. It sprang to life immediately and shot two cylinders towards Katarine, her lightsabers. She had stashed them in the hopes that she wouldn't have to use them. Nothing identified you as a Jedi faster than a lightsaber after all. She caught them without stopping and threw herself over the edge of the speeder car. A moment latter her contact was in the drivers seat.

"We gotta get the hell outta here, Ruby,"

It was a break neck ride through the crowded casino traffic with two swoop bikes after them. Katarine could handle them easily with the Force, and as soon as she had the chance she sent them spiraling out of control. They fell out of the traffic around them and she winced as she saw the crash, hopping no civilians were harmed.

"Thanks for the ride. We need somewhere to lay low until the search blows over."

She pulled the jacket around her and fished in the pockets. The datadisk was there and she fished it out to examine it grinning.

"Yeah, I've got a place," Harvey said, weaving the speeder through traffic. If Kat was familiar with Canto Bight, she'd recognize pretty soon that he was taking them to the Worker's District. It was reasonably safe, at least from the Imps; the Sixth Kin gang made sure of that. Luckily, the Kin had something of a mutual understanding with the CBPD. Harvey was banking on it keeping them out of trouble when he came flying through. "I hope that thing was worth it," Harvey said with a sigh, glancing at the Jedi in the passenger seat.

Soon, The Broken Hoof came into view -- a relatively rundown bar in the Southern Stretch, one who's owner let Harv come and go as he pleased when he was settling business between the Kin and Canto's police.

"It's not the Senate Apartment Complex," Harv joked as he led the way in, "but it'll do." He nodded at the slender Arcona behind the bar, who seemed entirely disinterested in the detective and the scantily clad Imperial stripper following in tow. For better or worse, The Broken Hoof was quite accustomed to Harvey's work... and vices. He nodded for Kat to follow, leading her through the main barroom and into the back. "I've got a, uhh... safehouse, in the attic," Harv said with a smirk.

It was more or less a storage closest situated above the center of the parlor below them, but it was private and off the Imperial radar. Harvey offered the single chair to Katarine, choosing the rough-looking cot nearby for his seat. When they were settled, he leaned forward, sitting wide legged with his fingers interlocked. "Well?" he said, almost expectantly. "Did you get what you were after?"

"I hope that thing was worth it,"

Katarine grinned at him. "Trust me, it was worth it." She wasn't sure if he would see it that way but as someone who had been investigating the criminals of Black Marsh Prison this was a lead she'd been digging at for almost a full year. She was beyond happy to have it in her delicate hands at last.

She followed him into the bar and was surprised to see he was a known entity here. He must do a lot of his business through this place. This reassured her that they were safe for the moment. She followed him upstairs into a tiny room that reminded her of the dorm rooms in the Temple where padawans stayed. He beckoned her to the chair and she took it, pulling the disk out to marvel at it once more, while he took a seat on the cot.

"Well?" he said, almost expectantly. "Did you get what you were after?"

"I hope so. This data disk contains information on a serial killer that was active during the Clone Wars. He was frozen in carbonate in a top secret prison on Naboo. A few years back Naboo had that big netherworld crisis. A lot of the carbonation chambers were thawed and this guy managed to get away. I've been tracking him for a while now, but he plays really close to the chest. He doesn't have friends, or girlfriends, and those that know him don't live long enough to talk about him. He's been blackmailing that Moff, which is the only lead I've had for a while."

As she spoke she got up and walked around the tiny room. There was a bare area where some odds and ends hung on wire hangers. Clearly the place wasn't meant for comfort but rather a place to crash when he needed it. Without asking Katarine picked up a pair of athletic pants that looked like he'd discarded them and slipped them over the g-string she was wearing. She then threw one of the t-shirts on. The clothes were ridiculously large on her slender five foot two inch frame, but at least she felt like she wasn't flashing the poor man while she talked about serial killers.

"They call this guy the butcher of lambs because he has a very special type. He likes to cut into children." She felt the bile rise in her throat as she said it.

"During his last spree he killed seventeen children, all under the age of six before he was caught. This might be the only way we can figure out where he's operating now. If he's not killing now he will be soon. This guy is sick. He can't go without his fix for long."

She sat back down on the chair and curled her legs around her.

"When the heat dies down we will have to find a way to read this disk." She didn't know much about this centuries technology. Kat was very old, having been frozen herself.

"Thanks for your help. You saved my bacon back there."

Yeah, well your bacon certainly needed it,” Harvey said with a laugh. Maybe she’d like his sense of humor, maybe not, but he figured he’d apologize later if it bothered her.He was quick to adjust his demeanor for the rest of her story, though.

Harvey felt his gut knot up when she mentioned her serial killer’s proclivities. “Dank farrik,” he grumbled. “Sick fether… and been sleeping since the Clone Wars? I could use a nap like that.” He slouched against the wall, sinking into the cot. No wonder Kat wanted to nail this guy. A millennia long killing career was nothing to bat an eye at.

Lemme see that disk,” Harv said after a moment of thought. He held his hand out to catch it. “Republic-era tech isn’t that hard to crack. It’s finding a decoder that’s the tricky part.” He thumbed the disk over in his hand, examining it idly while he wracked his brain. There was a slicer that worked for Sixth Kin a few years back that was pretty good, but she got busted in a CBPD raid and put away. All the shadowrunners he knew were back on Denon, but after Darkwire went bust, he had no way of telling who was locked up, hiding, or dead.

Harvey tossed it back. “I’ll call in a favor or two, see if I can’t find us a good slicer,” he said. The detective inched over to the edge of the cot and stood with a groan. “In the meantime, I could use a bite to eat. You hungry?

Katarine grinned when he said her bacon needed saving. He was absolutely right in that regard. She hadn't expected things to get so sticky back there but there wasn't any other way to get that disk. She'd been working that angle for months and after a while even the legendary patience of the Jedi cracked.

"I could eat."

She realized she was indeed hungry. She supposed that now she didn't have to fit into a g-string she could have a real appetite again. The thought made her smirk as she got up and stretched.

"So where are we anyway? Is this like a tavern for undercover cops who spend their days saving Jedi?"

Harvey chuckled. "This place? It's called the Broken Hoof. My best guess is they named it after the fathier races here in Canto. Lost plenty of credits betting downstairs, but you're my first Jedi." He gave her a smile that seemed genuine, or as genuine as a crooked cop could be.

He led the way downstairs, nodding at the bartender as he slid into one of the corner booths. He held a datapad in one hand and raised the other to order a pair of drinks. "Food here's pretty good," the scruffy detective said. Under the pale green light overhead -and without a squad of pissed-off stormtroopers chasing them- Kat could get a decent look at Harvey. He wasn't handsome in the conventional sense, but he wasn't unattractive, either; if anything, he looked like he could use a hot shower and a three-day-nap.

Maybe that would make him look more... alive.

Harv spent little time eyeing his partner himself. The whole Jedi thing was a pretty strong deterrent, despite her choice of immersive field attire. Besides, in his line of work, Harvey had seen one too many pretty faces marred for no other reason than to ruin the view. Better to focus on dinner and finding a Republic slicer instead.

"So, this guy," Harvey said as he scrolled with his finger on the datapad, "his name's Sor-Jan Cordo. Works for a group called the Miyuki Trade League. They usually stick to Wild Space, but I might just be able to get him to Canto. A few credits usually do the trick, or maybe a good parcel of starship scrap - I hear Cordo likes starship scrap." Admittedly, Sor-Jan was less a 'guy' and more of a contact; Harvey hadn't actually met the slicer in person, but he'd sent plenty of things that needed cracking over to Miyuki's headquarters on Eadu. Hopefully the promise of a nice cut would bring him over to Canto Bight.

The Broken Hoof huh? Katarine pulled out her datapad and entered a few commands. Part of being undercover was usually a costume change or two, which meant she had to have some clothes on backup. She'd dropped something off with a carrier earlier and they were just waiting for information where to take it. She placed the order and sat down in the booth, excited she would be able to get out of these large sweatpants soon.

He said the food was good here so she grabbed one of the grimy menus that they kept on the table. She ended up ordering some type of fried fish that looked like a billion calories and had a promising breaded crunch coating that had her mouth watering. She hopped it looked as good as the pictures did. Now that she didn't have to fit into a g-string any longer she realized she was starving.

"Sor-Jan sounds promising. If he won't leave I'll go to him. Honestly I want to catch the sicko on that disk so bad It's worth the travel."

In this light she could see her temporary partner better. He looked like he needed a hot shower and the thought made Kat realize she wanted one too. The body glitter on her chest was starting to itch. The food came and she continued to eye the man across from her. He looked like he'd seen a few things in his line of work. He also looked like he had one foot in the underworld and one foot out. He was attractive, but not in that pretty boy way. Kat was immediately smitten with his entire demeanor, something that usually didn't happen. She was a Jedi of old and back in her day the Jedi didn't frolic the way they did in this time period. After Order 66 she'd tried to live her life normal and found a guy. When that went crashing to the ground it had sent Kat on a whirlwind of pain and darkness. She herself couldn't turn to the darkside due to a genetic flaw, but that didn't mean the darkside didn't have its effect on her. It made her dizzy, out of it, and higher than any spice a criminal could get their hands on. She'd spent the next few years in and out of a high induced fever dream with a dark Jedi by her side. Of course nothing said cold turkey like several centuries frozen in carbonite so she had that to thank for sobriety, but the point was these feelings were dangerous. She forced her deep green eyes away from his jawline and instead eyed the room around them.

When the food and drink came she tasted the fried fish and was pleased. "You are right, this is good. Whats your name anyway?" She realized in all the chaos they had skipped the introductions. She eyed him over her plate of greasy bar food and felt her cheeks flush.

Careful girl.

Harvey’s order came just after Kat’s. His sweet tooth was evident in the plate of fresh Trandoshani flatcakes that were laid on the table, but Harv would insist that he just preferred the classics. A hot cup of stimcaf followed, which had barely cooled before he took a healthy mouthful. If you quantified the amount of coffee the man had drank in his life, it could easily drown a small village - and that wasn’t counting all the rough days where he’d added a splash of alcohol to make the cases sink in less.

He took a bite of food before answering the Jedi. “Harvey,” he said. “Denson.

Last names were fine, he figured; she was practically a cop herself, so what was the harm in a little familiarity? It dawned on him then that he only really knew her as ‘the Jedi’ and that perhaps she had a name, too.

What’s yours?” Harvey asked. He reached for his caf and took a long drink, looking at her over the rim. The Broken Hoof had a way of making everyone look more mysterious than they were, but Harv could tell the Jedi had an allure - and that wasn’t just because of the whole g-string ordeal.

It was her demeanor, the way she carried herself. Been awhile since he worked with someone like that. And speaking of work…

I sent a feeler out for Sor-Jan. Miyuki’s a pretty quick response, it shouldn’t take long to get something back.” Harvey sensed her eagerness to bust this killer. It wasn’t even his case, but he felt it pull at him, too. For the Jedi’s sake, he hoped the slicer would come through. If not? He was willing to help get her to Eadu, even if he had to barter a leave of absence to take her himself.

Harvey Denson. It was a good strong name and suited a cop. Kat grinned at him as he sipped his caf and asked what her name was. He was smart enough to know it wasn't Ruby. She was pulling her fish apart so it could cool as they sat the flatcake down. The food was good here considering it was a backwater tavern nobody knew about. Kat would have to visit again sometime. Maybe just for the view sitting across from her. She scolded herself the second the thought came to her head.

"Katarine Ryiah. You can call me Kat. Its nice to officially meet you Harvey." It was a bit awkward considering she'd met him half naked before she even knew his name but she was used to playing the femme fatale on missions. Sometimes that was the hand that got dealt. Considering her plan had worked and she'd retried the datadisk she couldn't stay frosty at it.

I sent a feeler out for Sor-Jan. Miyuki's a pretty quick response, it shouldn't take long to get something back.

"Thank you." Her gratitude was genuine. Katarine was probably more like a cop than any Jedi he'd ever met and like any good cop she was obsessed with the hunt. She'd been after the Butcher for a good while now. A moment latter the wait staff came back and sat a parcel down on the table with a glowering look at Kat. She suspected they didn't like the extra work of being a delivery boy. She smiled her thanks and slid it off the table to the seat next to her.

"I figured you'd want these sweatpants back at some point." She smiled at him again and took another bite of her fish. Kat loved seafood and this delicious breaded delicacy was not one to disappoint.

"Kat," Harvey said with a smile - a genuine one, not one of his chitty cop smirks. "I like that. It suits you." She was lithe, tactful, observant; the holy trinity of a good agent. He presumed that she was a Shadow, then, if not a cop. She had to be. There was no way CorpSec could afford to keep one like her on retainer, especially on Canto.

Harv polished off his caf, and as if the waiter bringing Kat's parcel over wasn't annoyed enough, the detective handing over the empty mug and nodded for a refill. It wasn't a rude gesture, but the waiter grumbled off to the counter anyway. "If he spits in my drink, I'll beat him with a fathier prod myself," Harvey said with a dark chuckle. Stars, it had been a long day.

"I'd have let you keep 'em," Harvey told her with a small shrug. And not just because he liked the idea of Kat wearing his clothes. "Anything you need up there is yours. Mi casa es su casa, as they say. How long are you planning to hang around Canto? Assuming the slicer comes here, and you don't have to make a jump to the Tingel Arm."

Katarine watched with a grin on her face as the waiter floated off to refill the drink. She had done some waitress work undercover one time and she knew it could really be a pain job. Still though he could at least try to enjoy it. She chuckled at the spitting in the drink comment and shook her head.

"Let's hope he stays professional."

The talk turned back to business as Kat sat her parcel on the booth seat next to her.

"Well my only real goal right now is getting that slicer so I'll stick around until I get him. Of course I could get out of your hair and still stay close. You might not want that Moff sniffing around for you too. I imagine he's going to be terrified he lost this disk. The Butcher isn't a man you can ask forgiveness of."
