O B J E C T I V E:
PEACEFULLY RESOLVE THE WOOKIEE CONFLICT
C-hGWHiWsAAYaLG
Location: Kashyyyk, Silver Landing
Kadan knew a small amount of the Wookiee language, nothing that would make him feel comfortable claiming to be a pro, but enough to state that he could pass by as a semi-okay translator. This new master he would be working with on the other hand, was something of a polyglot. He didn't know many people who took time to learn Mando'a, but he appreciated her efforts. Truthfully, he had been satisfied learning Binary, Mando'a, and some Huttese, but the encounter he had on Coruscant made him wonder at just what he could do if he focused his studies on expanding his knowledge, given his blade work was much to his liking. He imagined quite a bit more. He stood waiting on the loading platform, the Skyhopper rental was ready to go, and now he only needed this master to make herself appear.
He tried to be timely, heavens knew the masters expected it of him. She was probably grabbing copies of past Wookiee peace pacts, hoping to make the task ahead a bit easier. Kadan very much doubted this would go well. Wookiees weren't known for their diplomacy skills. The mission was simple. A group of 'Madclaw' Wookiees had formed their own tribe of sorts, and were reportedly encroaching and targeting other Wookiees and their hunting grounds. Needless to say, the Concord had gotten the complaints, and as such the two jedi would be sent to handle this matter. So now, Kadan sat by the Skyhopper, going over his Shyriiwook crash course on his datapad, and hoping that this whole ordeal wouldn't end in a horrific and terrible mess. He felt good about the possibilities however, he wasn't the worst at public speaking after all; despite what Aayla might have been saying.

It was close to a decade since the Jedi Master had last taken on a Padawan but with her recent change in specialisation, which gave her more free reign of the galaxy and granted her new responsibilities beyond that of research, she decided it was time to fulfil her duty as a teacher again and with the help of the council she was paired with a Padawan who seemed to be nearing the end of his training but was still struggling in some areas which were cause for concern, namely his attitude towards the Jedi beliefs.

The Jedi Master knew the essence of the Padawan's past but she was still very much getting to know him and hoped to do so more as they embarked on their first mission as a duo. She had been told of the Padawan's trouble in adapting to the Order due in part to his Mandalorian heritage. It was a culture she knew well after being exposed to it while learning the language so she could only imagine how hard it was for him to reconcile such vastly different cultures. She would be patient with him because of it.

It was her understanding of language and recent ascension in the diplomatic ladder that would lead her to the Shadowlands this day. She hoped the issue could find a peaceful conclusion but if these Wookiees were as zealous as they were said to be then there was always the possibility that no such peace could be found. Over the years, in her experience, the Jedi had reconciled with the knowledge that diplomacy did not always offer a solution and that some people were not meant to be reasoned with.

Donning a grey tunic, garb becoming more scarcely worn for the Jedi, the Jedi approached the Padawan sat beside their transport with a warm smile. "Afternoon, Kadan." She greeted him. "Time to put those talking skills of yours to use." She gave a friendly pat on his shoulder as she walked past to board the Skyhopper. "Come on." She told him before boarding and taking a seat. "It's both convenient and unnerving how close this is to home." She commented to no one in particular.

"This needs to be dealt with correctly. What would it do for our reputation if we can't solve disputes within our own borders?" She spoke both as a matter of personal concern and as a word of warning to the Padawan in the hopes of teaching him to be mindful of his actions since they reflected not only him but the Concord.

JOY RIDE
It had taken several minutes, but Kiara had made herself known, greeting the master with a nod of respect. "Evening Master Ayres, just brushing up on my Shyriiwook for the festivities ahead." He straightened, stowing his datapad away, and finding that Kiara had patted his shoulder and began to take her seat. Seeing that they were really getting this show on the road, Kadan climbed into the operators chair, and began to start up the craft.

She commented on how it was unnerving, with this conflict being so close to home, which he could agree. If word got out to their adversaries, it could case a problem for them down the road. If their foes such as the Sith learned of this, who's to say they could try and use this as a method to cause problems for the Concord down the line. Imagining the danger Sith backed 'Mad Claws' could be represent disturbed him. Wookiees were already strong and powerful, add to that Sith mutations, and it was a prime reason to worry. The fluttercraft started, it's wings flapping and giving a loud 'buzz' as it began to slowly rise at Kadan's inputs. The padawan didn't much care for these devices, they were cumbersome and truthfully he found them rather poor craft for having to defend oneself. Ideally, it wouldn't come to that in this situation, as their craft had it's weapons removed. So one had to hope the Wookiees down there were willing to talk, else this was going to get messy. The fluttercraft lazily rose to the sky, and began to tilt towards the direction Kadan commanded it to go.

"Master, do you know much about 'Mad Claws'? I found it rather odd that we are being sent to deal with them without additional support, they aren't exactly welcoming. A whole tribe of them rather alarms me, it just seems tactically unsound to only send two people." He inquired, knowing that he'd be told that this was the jedi way. "I understand it's our way to put our lives on the line before others, but say we are killed or captured, wouldn't that risk others as well?" Now he was really asking for it. Regardless, the cabin of their craft remained nice and cool, the 'buzzing' of the craft bleeding away into nothingness as it's rotors got to work. They'd be at the entrance point for the Shadowlands in a few minutes, plent of time for Kiara to try and explain the choices that lead to this mission.

"A wise choice. It's a tricky language to understand but necessary." She replied as she settled down into her seat and pulled out her own datapad. Even on a mission there was always something else to do, somewhere else to be. She couldn't be everywhere at once but she was trying her hardest to be.

With their capital being Kashyyyk, they were afforded a close relationship with the wookiees and it was commonplace for Jedi to be taught to understand the language and a requirement for the diplomats among them. She was pleased to see Kadan Scipora Kadan Scipora taking his role seriously. He was... an interesting Padawan and despite his rather brash nature he had a good heart - that much she could work with.

Kiara hadn't intended to ignore Kadan but stayed quiet until she heard him address her, at which point she looked up from the datapad at him to listen. "Truthfully, not a lot. They're Wookiees dishonoured for their excessive violence, I believe. Exiled and forgotten. At least until this group started causing a stir." She replied. "I know nothing of their culture or customs but we're about to find out pretty quickly." She told him.

"If we send too many people they may mistake it as an attack. We always attempt peaceful endeavours first, if they will allow us to talk to them." She placed her datapad down to devote her full attention to the Padawan she had taken on to train. It was unfair to split her attention between him and her other work. After all, she had chosen to assign them to the mission, believing it to be a valuable lesson to the Padawan who was at the beginning of his diplomatic journey.

The Jedi Master smiled at her Padawan. "Have faith. I doubt we'll get captured or killed. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it." She attempted to provide some comfort to Kadan. "Ultimately, we are Jedi and this is our purpose: to protect others and each other."

WHERE THE DARK THINGS CREEP
Kadan never prided himself much on being a pilot, but he knew well enough from his experiences that the fluttercraft was not his cup of tea. The craft was fast, but he could feel the controls fighting him with every shift of the wind pressure. Made him wonder how Wookiees pulled off those flutter races he had heard about. Regardless, he'd get them there in one piece, though the ride was a tad bumpy as he fought against the craft's systems.
"Truthfully, not a lot. They're Wookiees dishonoured for their excessive violence, I believe. Exiled and forgotten. At least until this group started causing a stir." She replied. "I know nothing of their culture or customs but we're about to find out pretty quickly." She told him.
He frowned at that, seemingly they were going in blind, though Kadan knew very little about the Wookiee culture from a few magazines he had read in his down time. "Well, I suppose that's one way to go about it." It didn't feel very wise to walk into this whole thing without much understanding, but that was on him for relying on the master to assist in his own short comings. "From what I've read, sometimes they require tests of loyalty or strength before earning the ear of their chieftain, though it varies tribe to tribe." His face strained as he thought of the challenges that could be thrown at their feet. The Shadowlands themselves were dangerous enough.
Her answer to his question was about as much as he expected. They lived a life of sacrifice, and had to merely trust that their skills and abilities would see them through. "It might not be our bridge to cross, that's what concerns me." Wookiees could be unreasonable if it came to butting heads, and truthfully that was his primary concern. Getting pushed into conflict, or being asked to kill something for the sake of appeasing their targets didn't sit right in his mind, though there was little they could do about it. He adjusted their course, the rotors of their craft shifting above the passenger canopy now, as the forward momentum of the craft stopped, and it began to lower itself into the thicket of trees.
"Well, here's hoping everything goes as planned." He said, as the beams of sunlight began to slowly vanish under the sky of trees and leaves.
