- Naboo EXPARC planetary survey probes
- Naboo SUREC hypercapable survey/recon probes
- Small deployable hyperspace beacons
- Excellent for long-haul scouting, reconnaissance, and exploration.
- Intrasystem and intersystem survey probe bays.
- Extremely durable hull.
- Quad lasers have total coverage; at least one is able to target anything in range at any given time.
- Superior firepower against targets to front, disproportionate to the ship's size.
- The vast majority of the Winter Eagle's firepower is locked forward, a problem compounded by the ship's...
- ...low maneuverability.
- Takes up significant hangar space and support capacity (low squadron count).
- Cramped and spartan, making it complicated to repel boarders or effect repairs in certain circumstances. Repairing the wing-mounted turbolasers, for example, absolutely can't be done from inside the ship.
The original Winter Eagle was created for the Silent Conclave, the informal group which became the Levantine Sanctum. The design proved reliable and appealing for mission profiles like anti-pirate patrol and interstellar surveying. Over the following decades, Silk kept making mildly updated versions of the Winter Eagle for the sleepy but reliable markets of the Tingel Arm. Winter Eagles of various generations are commonly used by remaining Levantine Sanctum ranger patrols and planetary defense forces in places like Laekia, the moons of Kyrikal, and the stranger corners of the Corporate Sector. Their extended-operation capabilities have made them popular choices among Wild Space explorers and long-range courier services. It's not uncommon to find Winter Eagles docked at extragalactic waypoints like Father Torus or Gadma Station.
The first Mark Five was delivered in the 890s. It generally retains the original vessel's mission profiles, strengths and weaknesses, including the distinctive impervium-coated hull. Like the original, it can carry up to 110 tons of cargo. The Mark Five is somewhat less maneuverable than the original, but boasts a brace of ageing Naboo survey/recon probes (from the 850s), as well as optimized quad laser field-of-fire coverage. It also has a light ion cannon, a force cylinder, and a basic tractor beam, simple additions that radically expand its options in difficult circumstances.
While suited for solo operation, the Mark Five has room for a crew of two, as well as up to three passengers, and boasts seven months of consumables for the full complement of five. The biochemistry lab is optimized for analysis, detoxification, and decontamination, allowing the crew to 'live off the land' in uncharted territory. Even without that capability, a solo operator can subsist on just the consumable stocks for as long as two years. Like the original, the Mark Five is specced for solitude.
