Wisdom is a light that casts many shadows - Petra/Orin

Orin had traveled from the lands of his birth, the twisting, forested foothills and canyons of the Dreaming River clan, to meet with [member="petra cavataio"] and learn at her feet. The Elder's in his clan closed their mind to what they considered 'The Shadow Path." Orin had toed the line of heresy within the clan for insisting on living by a more moderate path. To him, wisdom was a light that cast many shadows. In order to learn best, one had to open their mind to the entirety of the forest, instead of a narrow path.

Orin made it to where he had been told to find Petra, a field that was bordered on two sides by a dark forest with a river running from the forest and cutting the field in two. Orin set his bladed spear down behind him, then sat and closed his eyes. He could be patient, the life of a jai hunter trained one to be of the utmost patience.

From the shadows, the darkness that the forest casted. Petra walked up to the man from behind. As she moved pass him and towards the river, she spoke. “There was a time this clearing was filled with trees. That changed the day the river here was a river of blood. Death is all that remains here. Your ancestors under this soil… They wonder why you come to death. What does your heart desire?”

Orin stiffened and stood instantly when he felt Petra step from the darkness of the forest behind him. He smiled fiercely, he enjoyed both aspects of the hunt after all. He turned his head and watched her walk past him, for a moment his purpose here was forgotten as an instantaneous pang of lust clouded his mind.

Her words, however, cut through the cloud, reaffirming his purpose here, in his mind, and offering an anchor against his urges. He looked to the soil under his boots, pushing at it a little with the toe of his boot, then looking back up at Petra, straightening his back.

"My soul desires wisdom. As light and darkness are intertwined, so I wish my wisdom to be intertwined. One can not know the light without darkness and one can not know darkness without the light." He said, his voice came out softly, speaking from his heart, but Petra would have no issues hearing it over the sounds of the forest around them. "My ancestors used to understand that Wisdom is a light that casts many shadows. The meaning of that phrase hasn't changed, just my people's understanding of it. I wish to return to my peoples old ways and understand light and shadow."

He fell silent as he looked at her, pushing his baser thoughts to the back of his mind. Normally he wouldn't constrict the hedonistic attitudes that he felt, but this was of utmost importance to him and how he wished to usher his people into a new future. Whether or not they wished it.

“Noble desire, Jai… but remember our true ways does not have light or dark. It is how you use it. That’s how it always has been… before and after Allya’s arrival. She open the door to another world for us to use and drew a line in the sand that the other world stood on which is Never concede to evil. That is fine and all with the use of the force…” Petra started with as her reply but paused. It was better to just show through training what the world was and was not. One thing was for sure. The normal way of having the trials was not going to be the way she was going to follow. So she moved to that subject, “Well… I normally allow the Allyan clans to train their own but I could show you that way as easily as I can show my clan’s ways. So we’ll work here on your trials… fine with that?”
