Finally had some time to sit down during my busy day and managed to finish Witcher 3 finally. For a quick summary I liked the game, but I doubt I'd be replaying it again. 4/5 score really, but that's just from my first playthrough and all.
For the longer summary I really like the story and characters of the game. I did not play the other Witcher games but I do know the stories and what happened during them. And, actually, there is a part where you can set the world state of this game by talking about those pivotal events. I think, however, that might have been why I wasn't as invested in it as I'm sure long-time fans of the series are. I just wound up not being as invested as I was when playing games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age and other rpgs where I've actually started from the first game and followed the whole way through. It's really something for a series when you have interesting characters, but I feel it's more when the fans have actually followed those characters from start to finish and not just jumping in the middle or even towards the end. I was invested to be sure, but just not as much.
The only other thing that sort of put me off was the many MANY side missions. I do like a good side mission and these were really good ones. It wasn't just simple fetch quests or the like, each having their own storyline that actually followed more characters. It did show that pretty much everyone has a story to be told. But there was just so many and some felt like they dragged for a bit before I finally finished just to try and get back on track. I've had something of the same problem when replaying Dragon Age: Inquisition but those quests tended to be done faster.
So in the end I do think it's a great game but just not for me. And maybe not for other casual fans or people jumping into the game without really knowing or playing the last two. Not saying that accounts for everyone, just those like me.
