Being shot sucked.

There was no real nicer way of putting it than that. Being shot sucked. Being shot was awful. It sucked at the time and the recovery period after was also sucky. He'd spent so long on different medical beds on Hapes that a transfer back to Courscant to finish his recovery was a positive thing, until he found out it meant more time on a medical bed.

Pain was still radiating through his shoulder and down his arm, although the level of pain was a lot lower than when he was originally shot. That was a level of pain that had made him black out. It was a blaster bolt that had torn through his jumpsuit and caused some nasty burns to his flesh. Bacta had healed the worst of the damage, but he'd have some scarring.

The worst bit was that Kaelos didn't even know why he'd been shot. All he had done was rescue a young Hapan girl from a pile of rubble alongside Vera Noble Vera Noble and Thea Nyko Thea Nyko and he'd earned a blaster bolt to the shoulder for his troubles. He opted to believe that he'd just been caught in the crossfire between some looters, although it was a theory he'd never be able to prove or disprove.

It wasn't on him to prove or disprove the theory anyway. He'd tried, at first. Every attempt had been met with some Jedi Healer telling him that he needed bed rest and refusing to let him out. He was tempted to try contacting Valery Noble Valery Noble but he knew full well she'd tell him to stay and rest on Courscant.

He was stuck, well and truly.

And it sucked.

The soft hum of medical equipment filled the air, blending with the faint scent of antiseptic, as Eve stepped carefully into the Temple's medical wing. The space was quiet, save for the occasional murmur of healers moving between rooms. It was different from the usual places she found herself — the gardens, the training halls, the archives — but there was a certain kind of stillness here that felt just as sacred.

Her hands curled around the small datapad she had been given upon arriving for her shift. The file of a fellow Padawan flashed on the screen. Young Kaelos Vryn, shot through the shoulder on Hapes. She winced at the thought of how painful that must have been. Drawing in a slow breath, she smoothed the hem of her tunic, gathering herself before knocking gently on the door frame and stepping inside.

There he lay, resting in the hospital bed, his posture slightly tense despite the fact that he was supposed to be recovering. He didn't know her. And yet, she was walking into his space, into his healing. But this was what she volunteered for; to offer help to anyone who may need it during their recovery.

"Hi, um..." She hesitated for half a second before pressing forward, offering a small but genuine smile. "I'm Eve. I've been volunteering here, and I just wanted to check in on you." She took a careful step closer, mindful not to intrude too much, as she held up the datapad in her hands.

"I saw your name on my rounds... I figured, if you're up for it, you might want some company?"

She didn't want to assume. Some people liked to be left alone when they were recovering. Some just wanted quiet. But others... needed to know they weren't just another patient in a room.

"I, uh- I know we haven't met before. But I also know what it's like to be stuck inside with only your own thoughts for company." The tone of her voice hinted at a certain self-awareness. "And… sometimes, that's worse, in my experience." She smiled a little, knowingly. Her fingers drummed lightly against the side of the datapad before she lowered it, expression softening. "I might be able to help with any irritation or pain relief too. But... it's up to you... But... I'm happy to just keep you company."

She wasn't sure if she was good with any of this. But she could sit. She could listen. Sometimes that was enough.

Kaelos raised an eyebrow.

He hadn't expected any visitors, but he wasn't opposed to them. He was getting bored being stuck with nothing but his own thoughts for company. An older, more mature and experienced Jedi would have probably used the time to meditate but Kaelos was already bored of that as well.

The young Kiffar cast his eyes over to the Jedi as she introduced herself as Eve. From how she spoke, he identified that she was a healer of some description doing a ward round. He offered her a polite smile as she continued to speak, offering both healing and company.

"You're not wrong, it definitely sucks" he acknowledged in response to her. "It's the... I don't know. Being unable to do anything I guess?" he admitted. "I'm used to training and being active and doing things, being social. Now I'm just sat here and any time I try and do anything a nurse tells me to sit down and focus on myself. I don't get how I'm meant to do that when the galaxy around us is going to chaos"

Clearly, Kaelos wasn't one for sitting around doing nothing. He enjoyed being active, he had his routines. He liked his morning run and his socialising with his friends. He wanted to be back out there, conducting the duties of a Jedi and helping those who needed to be helped.

"Plus" he added with a slight smile. "The beeping of medical equipment in here is doing my head in. I have no idea how you're meant to sleep with that noise" he chuckled as he spoke.

Eve offered a soft, understanding smile to the boy. She understood that feeling of helpless impatience. That undeniable, profound need to act despite the entire universe telling you nothing but to stop completely in your tracks. To Eve, she had felt that need to act, and yet the thing stopping her was not any physical ailment, but rather her own uncertainty and turmoil that bubbled away inside of her, making her feel guilty if ever she did decide to indulge in that thought. Eve settled into the chair, her gaze gentle as she observed the Kiffar.

"I know it's frustrating, being stuck here when all you want is to be out there, making a difference. I get it..." Her voice was soft, empathetic, as she thought about all the times she was arrested by that same feeling.

"But sometimes, these forced pauses give us a chance to reflect, to understand ourselves better." It was as if Valery herself was speaking through her, or perhaps her mother. She glanced around the room, noting the minimalist decor typical of the Temple's healing centres. It didn't exactly inspire the soul.

"Sometimes it can give us a chance to practice things we might not otherwise want to do too... like meditation." Granted, Eve loved meditation, and it was something that came so naturally to her. But she knew not everyone had such a penchant for sitting and doing nothing. She had a feeling Kaelos might be one of those people, and she offered a small grin to him.
