SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Allows for long-range quantum encrypted communications, reaching to almost infinite range.
- Encrypted distress signal, able to request help on a continuously broadcast loop to friendly parties.
- Noise inhibitors and series IV speakers ensure exceptional clarity, filtering out white noise and adding a countermeasure by preventing eavesdropping outside of a 4m circle around the user.
- Translator allows communications with others using millions of stored languages and includes an external amplifier to translate during face-to-face conversations also.
- Can be paired with the LANA System.
- Designed for use aboard the UT-75-SRP “Archer” Speeder Bike, the Woodhouse Comm-Set can be removed and used as a handheld communicator, having a battery life (full charge) of 30 standard days. Small enough to fit into a pocket or be clipped to a shirt or belt, and weighing very little, it is ergonomically designed. When replaced back into the docking station on the bike it recharges and can be used in conjunction with the bike’s heads-up display.
- Integrated holoprojector allows HoloNet viewing and communications also.
- Can jam enemy communications signals up to 300m away.
- Good all-weather protections.
STRENGTHS:
- Built-in countermeasures prevent eavesdropping and have the ability to jam enemy communications signals nearby.
- Able to be dismounted and easily carried, operating independently of its charging/docking station for up to 30 standard days.
- Allows for real-time translation, even in face-to-face conversations.
- Near-infinite range thanks due to hyperwave transceiver, while ensuring incredibly hard to intercept or decrypt secure messaging.
- Blocks out white noise and allows for extraordinary clarity both sending and receiving messages.
WEAKNESSES:
- Despite difficulties inherent in intercepting or decrypting communications signals, the signals sent by the Woodhouse can still be detected and potentially triangulated and used to determine the location of the sender.
- Translation abilities do not extend to body language and other non-verbal communications skills, nor – owing to the lack of a droid brain – the rapid processing needed to interpret subtle and nuanced linguistic elements, which in turn possibly reduces some of the accuracy of translations or inhibits certain levels of communications with certain species.
- Only mildly shielded against shock and EMP/Ion, and more powerful damage types such as these can affect performance or even disable this unit.
- Jamming only extends to low-grade and civilian-type communications and systems, and will not affect large, protected, or especially powerful communications systems.
DESCRIPTION:
A powerful little communications system, able to be mounted on the UT-75-SRP “Archer” Speeder Bike, but removable to work as a personal commlink and translator system. Using hyperwave technology, the Woodhouse has a nigh-infinite range, able to send encrypted and secure communications to friendly recipients in hyperspace or realspace most anywhere across the galaxy, and while those signals can be tracked, they cannot be intercepted or decrypted except by only the most talented of slicers. Additionally, the Woodhouse enables real-time translation across literally millions of known languages, though it lacks the nuances and subtleties of an actual translator.
Built-in countermeasures not only block outside ‘white’ noise, combining with series IV speakers to allow excellent sound quality and clarity during conversations but to prevent eavesdropping from without a 4m circle surrounding the user. Additionally, the Woodhouse can be used to jam low-grade and civilian communications systems nearby, although this doesn’t apply to particularly powerful arrays or highly advanced and more powerful systems like those in use by major militaries. Designed for the rigors of outdoor work on backwater worlds, the Woodhouse is tough and durable, hardened against EMP/Ion threats, shock, and waterproofed. However, again, very powerful ion attacks or EMP threats will – at least temporarily – disable or degrade the Woodhouse’s ability to operate properly.
