Intent: To provide a single cloaking device to cloak a star destroyer
Development Thread: Riders of the Fringe
Manufacturer: Lucerne Labs
Model: Wraith-class Cloaking Device
Affiliation: Gir Quee
Modularity: No
Production: Unique
Material: Stygium, various electronics
Strengths
Now you see me, now you don't: Like most cloaking devices, the Wraith-class makes the utilizing ship difficult, but not impossible to detect, except by using certain advanced sensors such as CGTs.
Weaknesses
Power Hungry: The amount of power needed to cloak such a large ship is almost astronomical. Due to the power draw, only up to a quarter of the ship's weapons can be fired while the vessel is cloaked. In addition, it's almost typical for the ship's other devices to work imperfectly while the cloak is on due to the unusually high power daw.
Description: Inspired by Grand Admiral Thrawn's use of cloaking devices on star destroyers on his campaign against the New Republic, Admiral Quee had long kept the notion of acquiring a cloaking device on his mind for a long time, but never had the means to pursue it to a reality for some years. When presented with the opportunity to acquire a stygium device from a crime lord on Kelsier, he jumped at it, personally leading a false flag operation using Lucerne Lab's assets and trusted Republic sailors on "vacation" to secure not only the device, but to raid the crime lord's personal stocks of stygium crystals.
When the device was brought back to Lucerne Labs, Salmakk managed to mostly reverse-engineer the device and managed to make one on a larger scale, in part from using data recorded of the Corpulentus, a large CIS vessel which used a presumably stygium-based cloaking device at the Battle of Praesitlyn. While the engineers at Lucerne Labs were able to make the device, it was imperfect. Not unlike the Mk. III Stygium Cloaking Device, the power draw of the device hampers the ship's performance, stripping much of its offensive power and making many of its systems unreliable; problems not associated with the more common hibridium-based devices. With the limited supply of crystals, only a single device was built in secret at the Labs. Its existence is not known outside of the admiral's knowledge and those at Lucerne Labs, making it probably one of the closest guarded secrets in the Galactic Republic.
