STANDARD FEATURES
The Wraith is equipped with modern software and hardware up to contemporary technological standards. It possesses comparable equivaents to other systems that are in standard use for starfighters, such as advanced deflector shields, sensor and communications packages. These are easily updated to match improvements developed in the future.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
- Droid piloted (see below).
- Unity Processing Matrix. Significantly improves coordination, predictive aiming and power distribution. This system essentially acts as a powerful droid brain controlling the starfighter.
- Electronic warfare suite: the starfighter makes use of wide angle DERP's, jamming beams and missile deactivation transmitters to interfere with the ability of enemy of ships to track, target, and attack friendly vessels and starfighters using the three modes.
- AE-CM1 Dampener Chaffhttp://starwarsrp.net/topic/103363-ae-cm1-dampener-chaff/ (purchase request here, permission here).
- Eidolon Modulating Energy Shieldhttp://starwarsrp.net/topic/134597-eidolon-class-modulating-energy-shield/ (purchase request here, permission here).
- AE-HD1 Specter-class Hypertransit Systemhttp://starwarsrp.net/topic/108718-ae-hd1-specter-class-hypertransit-system/ (purchase request here, permission here).
- The Wraith is a starfighter with solid defensive and offensive capabilities. It is equipped with a Faraday Cage to provide resistance against EMP attacks knocking out its systems.
- It possesses significant EWAR capabilities, allowing it to disrupt opponents in a variety of ways. However, it is only able to use one at a time.
Scream: Utilisation of jamming beams on hostile starfighters and point defence weapons in order to decrease their accuracy and make it harder for them to find target locks on craft. - Hide: Makes use of wide angle DERP in order to hide a squadron of allied fighters from detection. However, it is double blind.
- Scramble: Intended to disable enemy ordinance through use of potent missile deactivation transmitters.
[*]With some advanced gadgets purchased from AE the Wraith can defend itself better and has an improved hyperdrive.
Weaknesses:
- The Wraith is designed to take on enemy attack craft. It suffers in confrontation with capital ships and is not meant to take them on.
- The advanced systems prohibit large scale production. With only 8 ships in a squadron and a limited production run, it will never be the mainstay of a fleet’s fighters, rather serving as elite squadrons.
- Ion weapons remain a vulnerability. Strong attacks can overcome the shields or knock the fighter out of commission.
- The speed of the Wraith is average. Faster ships could stay out of its firing arcs by exploiting their superior speed.
Description:
When Enyo Typhos assumed direct control over Archangel, she was faced with the task of getting the megacorporation back on its feet. Her takeover had been hostile in the most literal sense of the word. Rather than take over through shady deals in smoke-filled backrooms, she had launched an insurrection and overthrown her creators in a bloody coup d'état. This obviously took its toll on Archangel's infrastructure, since its shipyards, factories and factory ships were targeted by her. Now that she was in charge, she had to rebuild what she had torn down. Fortunately, most of Archangel's employees are droids. Machines do not require sleep, food, breaks, holidays or a wage. Many of Archangel's planetary operations were scaled back and transferred to mobile operation centres; a process already begun under the auspices of her creators.
Aside from infrastructure development, Enyo also took a great interest in modernising Archangel's droid forces. This would give her products to sell on the market and also upgrade her own military. One of the new designs that soon took shape in an Archangel shipyard was the Wraith starfighter. This attack craft diverged a bit from traditional Archangel design philosophy. Typical Archangel attack craft prioritise speed and firepower over protection. After all, they are controlled by droid brains. However, this was supposed to be a more exclusive craft with a limited production run.
This allowed the designers to make improvements in a variety of areas, such as firepower and defence, giving it above average qualities. In lieu of the standard droid brain used for the Drone attack fighters, Enyo chose to endow the Wraith with a Unity Processing Matrix. This device was the fruit of Archangel's research into entechment. More reliable than the traditional entechment, it cannot be subverted in the way the Ssi-Ruuvi war machines are.
When plugged into a vessel, the matrix acts as an extremely powerful droid brain. With one of these installed the machine is able to handle exponentially more calculations, predictions and tactical situations, leading to an increased efficiency. Because the Wraith is controlled by a machine, it dispenses with unnecessary organic luxuries such as life support, passenger or cargo capacity, consumables and crew.
In addition, Enyo chose to outfit the starfighter with potent EWAR capabilities. Enyo herself is an adept slicer and very skilled in mechu-deru and electronic manipulation. A droid starfighter could obviously not utilise preternatural techniques, but it could use conventional electronic warfare to disrupting effect. This allows it to support allied craft and larger ships. This is achieved through use of three modules. Through firing jamming beams, it can turn its electronic attacks on hostile starfighters and the point defence weapons of capital ships. The goal is to reduce the accuracy of these weapons, increase the difficulty of being targeted by small warheads and protect allied attack craft. One attack of this nature is able to affect between two and four fighters and several enemy point defence weapons. Due to the targeted nature of the attack, the risk of friendly fire is limited. In that regard, the droid brain is a boon, as it improves coordination, prediction and tracking capabilities. Ships fitted with advanced targeting systems may be less affected by this mode.
The second module utilises a wide angle Dedicated Energy Receptor Projector in order to detect incoming sensor pings across a significant area, which is generally enough to hide a squadron, and fade into the sensor to avoid disrupting it or registering on it. This allows it to obfuscate a group of attack craft approaching a hostile vessel. However, by the time the starfighter enters the range of point defence weapons, basic sensors ought to be able to counteract this feature. In spite of this, on average it possesses a greater efficacy than other forms of non-cloaking stealth at long range, allowing it to deceive many specialised sensor craft. Finally, the last EWAR module allows the Wraith to sow confusion among enemy capital ships by disabling or disrupting guidance locks from enemy ordinance through use of a powerful missile deactivation transmitter, taking out enemy missiles in short bursts.
EWAR capabilities aside, the Wraith is equipped with a pair of laser cannons and two warhead launchers, each capable of firing a variety of different warheads such as concussion missiles, proton, ion and mag-pulse torpedoes. This allows the Wraith to engage in dogfights with hostile attack craft. Due to the variety of complex systems, the Wraith would never be able to achieve anything more than limited production. Enyo considers this an acceptable tradeoff.
