Major Locations:
Old Dacha
-A ruin of a city, the buildings remain intact, everything there virtually untouched since its citizens either died or left. The ghostly structures still offer to shelter to those who have not heard of the stories of ghosts that wander the streets at night. While the existence of such ghosts has never been confirmed, many of the planet’s denizens firmly believe such legends.
New Dacha
-Constructed on the opposite shore of Dacha’s Well from Old Dacha, the city houses the main spaceport and is the largest city on the planet. It contains the majoring importing and exporting business, the major trading hub for semi-precious stone, as well as the the systems governmental institution. The institution organizes the voting polls, distributing it to the public, among other things. The city itself lies on the shore of the largest lake on the planet, Dacha’s Well. Both the city and the Lake are named after the city’s founder. The city reaches down into the lake’s basin and from the shore to the center of the lake, where a large facility distills salt from the briny waters of the lake.
Dacha’s Well
-Dacha’s Well is the largest lake on Xeshilia, the large salt water basin created the thriving city of New Dacha, due to the economical opportunities that the lake provided. The lake is used to produce freshwater, salt, and its shores are often scoured for loose semi-precious stones. The lake itself is nearly 12 km in any direction. Its shores are protected by large natural stone walls, which the city was built atop of. It is largely believed that both that lake, and the resulting large concentrations of salt in the planet’s waters, were created by a meteor impact early on in the planet’s creation.
Brizen Mine
-Located 34 km Northwest of New Dacha, the mine functions as both a prison and source of income for the government. The mine employs the work of convicted felons to mine for whatever semi-precious gems can be found there. While the public believes the mine takes relatively good care of its wards, it is grossly under funded, and is often unable to feed its workers, instead opting to feed the guards, foremen, etc.
Culture:
Life on Xeshilia is one that revolves around work. Every citizen is expected to carry out a some function, be it as a miner, guard, politician, mechanic, vendor, or some other occupation. The planet’s unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the galaxy, as well as having one of the highest participation rates. However, that does not necessarily mean that the plane is an economic powerhouse. Most people are just scraping by. At home, citizens of Xeshilia are extremely family and community oriented, often creating tight knit families and neighborhoods. Aside from a magnified emphasis on hard work, which sprouted from the fact Xeshilia is a mostly barren desert world, life is much the same as anywhere else in the galaxy.
Technology: They have made no technological advancements of their own. They rely on the outside galaxy to bring them the comforts of home and the machines they use to create a livelihood. They cannot afford state of the art equipment, so much of the technology is second hand. The facilities used to mine and distill water and salt is several decades old at any given point in time, some reaching into centuries.
History: Xeshilia has existed largely isolated from the rest of the galay since its discovery circa 200 ABY. It was originally settled by miners that had been displaced due to a conflict on their home planet. It was these people that discovered Dacha’s Well and built the first city of Dacha on the planet. The city itself started out as little more than pitched tents and slowly grew into a small city. The planet spent many many years away from galactic politics, electing to do nothing more than to trade with those who came to them.
The Gulag Plague did manage to reach the planet. When the citizens of the planet began to drop dead in the streets, they implemented a planet wide quarantine. However in the city of Dacha, the plague had already taken hold. Those who resided within the city died. The ones who left seemed to disappear. The neighboring towns and cities never recieved the population of the city. Bones and dried husks of bodies are occasionally found across the desert plains, leading to the belief that the population died as they migrated to new cities, the crippling disease preventing a timely migration.
During the 400 Year Darkness, the planet remained relatively unchanged. As portions of the population began to believe that they were no longer in danger of catching the Plague, they returned to Old Dacha many deciding to settle within the old city once more, while others felt it better to start anew in New Dacha.
The planet knew little tragedy from then on, until the events of Netherworld occurred. Already rumours of ghost had circulated across the planet’s population, the stories told as if they were fact, a fact which many believed. Then one day, the entire population of Old Dacha disappeared. Food still on table, speeders idling in the middle of the streets. It was as if the entire city’s population had gotten up and left. Yet no one had witnessed another mass exodus like that of the original Old Dachans. This event became known as the Taking, the citizens of Xeshilia believing the ghosts of Old Dacha took those who resided within the city to the other side of fate.
Since the Taking, no other major events occured that affected the citizens of Xeshilia. The Omega war seemed like some far off trouble.
Notable PCs: None
Intent: To assist in the creation of planets for the Val Cluster Campaign and to create a planet that offers both the arid climate of deserts, without the endless tracks of sand and no water. In addition it has the potential for Force Nexuses (Nexi?) should another writer choose to construct one.
