COMBAT INFORMATION
- Availability: Uncommon
- Deployment: Minor
- Strengths:
- Morale: Xi Charrian work ethic makes it so that only the most dire of circumstances will compel the Xi Charrian Marines to surrender
- Commando training: While not as individually skilled as ARC troopers, they can still be challenging for Jedi or Sith to fight
- Precision strikes: As the Xi Charrian Marines are trained for performing special operations, the XCM are the go-to units when mass deployment are not adviseable
- Weaknesses:
- Command and control problems: Since Xi Charrians communicate using clicks, they work poorly with units not containing Xi Charrians; in addition, they also see themselves as a cut above other units, which can cause additional problems
- Imperial foes: The Xi Charrian Marines will never take prisoners when fighting Imperial factions
- Limited ammunition: Each Xi Charrian marine is issued two drum magazines of 120 rounds each as a standard combat load, which can be a liability in prolonged firefights or if units are indisciplined with their triggers
- Limited combat mobility: Heavy weapons make the unit move slower when out of vehicles
- Description: After the Galactic Empire invasion of Charros IV, where the GE committed genocide against the Xi Charrians by means of orbital bombardment targeted at their sacred sites (given Xi Charrian workaholic culture, destroying factories on their home planet is tantamount to desecration, blasphemy and sacrilege all rolled into one), they began to enlist in unprecedented numbers into the Silver Jedi military, even after its subsequent recapture. As a result, the Mk8 Katarn armor had to be redesigned for Xi Charrian morphologies; the resulting suit of armor is functionally equivalent to a Mk8 Katarn armor, only fitting Xi Charrian bodies. Understandably, the Xi Charrian contingent saw action on several theaters, and there is one constant thing that emerged: they systematically refused to take prisoners when fighting Imperial factions. Also, as with any army with volunteer enlistment, certain soldiers perform better than others. Entry into the Xi Charrian Marines requires satisfactory performance in combat missions in any of the five specialties covered by the unit. A Xi Charrian Marine platoon is designed for independent operation; typical deployment of XCM platoons comprise the following: four snipers, providing overwatch for the remainder of the units, one Jairdain heavy mortar and its total of five crewmen, two Ventooine electromagnetic plasma machineguns and their four crewmembers, three MiniMag PTL missile launchers, manned by one person each, and eighteen riflemen, along with their commander, for a total of thirty-five soldiers.
Of course, there are drawbacks to using heavy weapons: heavy weapons require significant time for deployment, during which time they are vulnerable to a variety of enemy units such as line infantry, snipers, ground-attack aircraft. Also said heavy weapons carry limited ammunition: it becomes a liability that is especially apparent with missile troopers and mortar teams, they are vulnerable in prolonged engagements when their finite amount of heavy ammunition makes them vulnerable when exhausted. Finally it makes movement much more limited and not only because it is slower while outside of vehicles: while on the move it is vulnerable to a variety of other units.
