BIOGRAPHY:
A first born to Timchi and Maeko Maeda, Yōkai is one of a long line of leaders dating back to the founding of the Empire. House Maeda is one of the Five Great Houses, tracing their bloodline to the three Dark Jedi who first came to Kelewan. His father Timchi was a great warrior, but ineffective ruler. He was removed as leader of the traditionalist Yellow Flower Party many years prior to his death, in favor of a lesser Lord. Many blame him for the rise of the progressive Blue Wheel Party that occurred during his reign. Yōkai took his place as Lord following his death, as is his right as the first-born son. Yōkai had only one legitimate younger brother, Mastai, who was killed by defenders of a nearby planet during a raid. Less than a year after becoming Lord, Yōkai was named leader of the Yellow Flower Party, seeking to restore its power and wash away the poor reputation of his father. Throughout his childhood, he showed great promise in court. He was dedicated to his studies and forged great friendships with those around him. He become proficient with an energy bow, but lacked talent in swordsmanship. His father would always degrade him for this, and threatened to give the title of Lord to one of his bastard sons instead. Timchi never acted on this, but Yōkai was forced to duel one of his father’s bastards, Logai, for the title of Lord. The court could not confirm Logai’s claim that he had been promised the Lordship and legitimatized by Timchi shortly before his death. Yōkai used quick movements to evade Logai’s flurry of strikes, and struck him down with only one blow to across his chest. He chose to spare him, and Logai now serves as the head of House Maeda’s forces. It has been a year since then, and Yōkai now seeks to steer the Empire away from progressive changes that threaten his family’s power.
