- Built To Last: Y-148s are an older design, but are still very effective against more modern technology.
- Low Maintenance: Y-148s do not require very much upkeep in order to function properly compared to other light bombers.
- Chemically Treated Hull: To increase survivability in alien environments, Y-148s are chemically treated to be resistant to many types of environmental damage.
- Durable: Y-148s are more durable than similar light bombers, and can take a significant beating before going down.
- Low Speed: Y-148s are not especially fast for light bombers, meaning they need protection from starfighters such as the A-64 in order to function at peak performance.
- Can Be Fooled: For unknown reasons, Y-148s have a tendency to be fooled by false signals very easily.
The Y-148 was designed to function as a light bomber for the Glolmark Corporation's ruthless colonization of the Unknown Regions. On planets with significant military force, Y-148s were used to drop a wide variety of chemical weapons on all military installations until there were no survivors left. These attacks often created deadly wasteland areas which became known as “despair zones” by the people of the Unknown Regions.
Naturally, the Y-148s were widely hated throughout the Unknown Regions. When the mass slave revolts against the Glolmark Corporation began, these light bombers were used by the corporation to attack liberated cities, and destroy Glolmark Corporation property which fell into the hands of the revolutionary forces. Many of these craft were captured by revolutionary forces, and others were stolen by space pirates taking advantage of the general chaos. In the end, these light bombers could not prevent the downfall of the corrupt corporation, as one by one, the colonized planets secured their freedom.
After the fall of the Glolmark Corporation, highly convincing knock-off versions of Y-148s were sold by a wide variety of starship manufacturers. Most of these have ended up with terrorist groups. However, a few people have managed to find uses for them that do not involve killing things. For example, on some agricultural planets, they are used as crop dusters.
When the Corporation restarted in the Outer Rim under the ownership of Wendell Mortimer Glolmark , they began using Y-148s again. They mostly fulfill the safe roles as they did when the corporation was at the height of its power, but Wendell Mortimer Glolmark has some new roles in mind for them as well.
