Description:
Strengths
- Moderately long batter life; designed to go long periods of work between charges
- Moderate computer skills
- Skilled in mechanics
- Problem solver; this droid is able to figure anything out, given enough time (think: toddler-mindset). Its only a matter of how much time it takes, and how much they break in the process.
Weaknesses
- No combat skills
- Curiosity killed the droid, as they say.
- Enjoys falling from heights, the longer the fall, the greater the attraction (usually to their own self-destruct)
Personality
The requests that James put out for the Y1-series droid required it to have a very toddler-like personality. These droids are creative, inquisitive, and sometimes down right stubborn. They have no problem getting themselves in trouble, and if they had mouths, chances are they would put everything they touch into it. Their penchant for trouble only adds to their luster as the most innocent, creative, and adaptable of droids. These do, effectually “grow up” in time; though many of their beloved “vices” remain. Unfortunately, despite endless testing and refinement the gained no growth when it came to understanding “danger” such as fire, lava, or heights. However, their fierce loyalty would cause them to use this to throw themselves in harm’s way for their owners.
Development
Following the advent of the K1-Series droid, James decided to press the designers and workers at MMI to the next level. Following in suit with the K1’s design to start a new generation of droids that have seemingly needed an update, he ordered a new line of Utility droids to be developed.
The orders were clear: affordable, mass-produced, and able to be highly adaptable. People, James felt, needed an ability to use droids that would change for their needs quickly and easily.
The result was the Y1-Series droids. These droids are highly adaptive and modifiable, with four different ports that can have tools or needed equipment added to them. Their hulls can be re-enforced to be able to withstand rough environments, and their sensor can be upgraded to be more able to catch finer details. They come with a base-line computer and mechanics skill-set. As the droid adapts to its needed roll, one of the two will generally overwriting most of the other skill’s data. Alternately the two skills can remain the same level, however this requires a direct overwrite which isn’t too hard to do, but is uncommon to do. The lost data can be regained through more “learning” that will over write the other skill’s gained ability, alternately this may occur through a factory reset, which would also change any personality gains to nothing.
Many owners outfit their Y1’s with rocket thrusters to overcome their tenancy to fall off ledges for amusement sake (a development flaw), though this has been met with mixed results.
Y1-Series droids are given corresponding denotations following their model type based on production. E.G: Y1-G7; Y1-N3 Y1-J3
