Intent: To reduce the ambiguity of Yuuzhan Vong weaponry, while also providing a new spin on former weaponry. To create something more feasibly put onto custom ground vehicles and fleet ships, or used as ground emplacements.

Development Thread: If needed

Manufacturer: Legion Yun'Do

Model: Yaret-Gavvuk, or the Moving Cannon

Affiliation: One Sith/Legion Yun'Do

Modularity: Yes. Item can either be a standalone defensive emplacement or shipborn onto ground vehicles or larger space worthy ships. Can also be modified, through genetic splicer, with biots and species used for targeting, sensors, communications, and piloting.

Production: Mass produced

Material: Living biot derived from Yaret-Kor, Yorik Coral, Tall-Yor, Connecting Villip Choir, Blazebugs, Oggzil, Viewspider, Heat-pit Sensor, Sensor array (Yorik Trema), Targeting brain, Commbuzzer

Classification: Heavy Weapon

Size: Mobile Ground Emplacement or Shipborn Heavy Cannon

Length:
-Ground emplacement or ground vehicle born: 12 meters
-Shipborn: Varies based on vehicle, power of which reflected on size of vessel

Weight:
-Ground emplacement or ground vehicle born: 40 metric tons
-Shipborn: Varies based on vehicle, power of which reflected on size of vessel

Ammunition Type: Super Heated Plasma rock, beginning size of 900 mm and substantially increasing dependent on whether standalone or shipborn. Any entry using this cannon will spell out the distinct characteristics of the ammunition (which can vary from purely shrapnel based to armor-piercing, gas release, etc.) Standard weapon yield is equivalent to a heavy turbolaser.

Ammunition Capacity: Theoretically Infinite, based on input through surrounding materials

Effective Range (speed tops out at 1000 m/s in atmosphere):
-Ground Emplacement: 45 km
-Shipborn: 25km - 75 km

Rate of Fire:
-Ground emplacement or ground vehicle mounted: Can fire 4 times per minute, sustained at 2 rounds per minute. However, rate of fire will dictate necessary personnel for input of raw materials.
-Shipborn: Due to power, the firing rate is reduced to once per minute.

Special Features:
-Self Healing
-Consumes raw material and ambient energy/solar radiation
-Can be used as either a defensive and mobile ground emplacement (Heavy Artillery), or shipborn through early development grafting
-Due to the nature of the weaponry, can be used in the capacity of arching (Artillery fire), or used for straight line of sight fire depending on range.
-Can be modified with a number of biots to serve as a self reliant defensive emplacement.
-Can be manually controlled by a single pilot, when placed as ground emplacement. Otherwise, the weapon is controlled through nervous system of host vehicle
-Numerous security measures in place to prevent piloting without proper authorization.

Description:

To the Yuuzhan Vong of old, the idea of a defensive emplacement nears the notion of heretical. Why defend when you can charge in to meet the enemy on the offensive? However, as time changes, so do the mentality of those involved in the Yuuzhan Vong culture. The Yaret-Gavvuk is the first of many concoctions of the Legion Yun'Do that serves the purpose of refining weaponry to the point of being usable in the current time frame. The shaping process was first initiated by splintering from the Yorik-Kor, with the intent of creating something modular - to serve the purposes of old as well as the mobility often seen in mechanized warfare.

The Yaret-Gavvuk comes in two main forms: shipborn cannon form or mobile cannon form. In the case of the latter, a body of legs and carapace is capable of moving the emplacement at a slow interval. This lack of prioritization on the mobility of the emplacement (5km/hr) means it is not necessarily an effective weapon for the forward lines of offensive invasions, unless a base camp is established. As such, it was adapted in modular form to be capable of being grown on ground vehicles with the appropriate size to sustain the weight of the cannon along with the force caused by firing. The body and legs of the vehicle are armored in living coral and are large enough to support the weight of cannon, offset the power and momentum, and claw into rock, metal, or other durable materials. At 1km/hr, the mobile emplacement can climb a vertical face and affix itself before firing.

The change in physiology of the cannon, from the Yaret-Kor, has lent itself to a new visualized form of ballistics: the natural characteristics of the weapon being large blue orbs that leave distinct contrails in their wake. Once the projectile hits, either target or ground, the weapon reacts as an explosive shrapnel, creating a distinct blast radius.

The Yaret-Gavvuk, like the Yaret-Kor, is composed of a tough outer layer of self-healing yorik coral, capable of large amounts of sustained damage. Along with this, the emplacement has been modified with a number of biots to increase it's versatility. First and foremost, a targeting brain has been grafted into base of the cannon. Sitting in a nut sized contained, suspended in nutrient broth within a reinforced case of yorik-coral, the system works in similar fashion to those of mechanized units, allowing for friend and foe interception and immediate fire on reception of threat. The targeting brain makes use of several biots to assist in it's endeavors: A sensor array, spliced from the Yorik-Trema transports ships, helps to communicate both the placement of other defensive emplacements as well as identify and target enemy craft. Information collected through these biots is communicated to corresponding defensive emplacements via a villip choir, which coordinates information into 3-D images that can be perceived either by the cannon or by a manual pilot (linked in through Tall-Yor). Along with this, the corresponding information can be perceived through blazebugs (map making insects) and broadcasted, over small time frames, with viewspiders. Blazebugs require information be sent to Yammosk before interpretation and command.

While not directly connected to the armament, the cannon is capable of corresponding with alliance based communications through oggzil, though the specific creature has to be raised specifically to interact on those frequencies. Otherwise, communication can be detected by enemy vessels, allowing for evasion of ground emplacement weaponry. The weapon is grafted with numerous failsafe security features, including: Heat Pit Sensor, Commbuzzer, and necessary passage pheromone in order to access the Tall-Yor and manually control the vehicle. This passage pheromone responds to a small hatch sphincter, allowing access to the miniaturized control room - which can only hold one individual. Any intruder recognized through heat-pit sensor or failure of the passage pheromone, specific to each individual Yaret-Gavvuk, will lock up the Tall-Yor, preventing manual control of the emplacement. At this point, command through a ground Yammosk will dictate the continued actions of the Yaret-Gavvuk. Failsafe can be overwritten with proper passage pheromone application.

When mounted on a beast or ship, the cannon serves similar purposes as that of the Yaret-Kor, with the modifications listed above and the capacity to accept new and more versatile ammunition types.

OOC Restrictions: Cannot be grafted on to canon ground vehicles without a custom entry in the Factory.

Vong Heavy Turbolaser. Cool.

My only problem here is the size is roughly that of an AT-AT so my question is, that is just the weapon system correct?

Yeah, I see what you mean. I dropped the barrel down to 12 meters and 16 metric tons. Would that be more appropriate given its power and payload?

[member="Draco Vereen"]

Yeah, solid point there. Should I up the length or can I keep it as is? 20 meters seemed like a bit much for barrel length but I'm sure you can clarify that for me.

Edit : my bad, posted with the wrong account.

No problems. 12 meters is fine, the weight was the issue I say. Your average Tank gun weighs anywhere between 3 Metric tons to 4 Metric tons, and the 16"/.50 caliber guns on the Iowa-class were 120ish metric tons, so I was thinking split the difference for ground based Heavy Turbolaser Analogue.

I have always considered them lighter than RL main ship weapons as there are normally many more of them on an equivalent sized ship to the Iowa and as Star Wars is fairly vague about the weight of a lot of things meant for space combat.
CR90 (Military was 150 Meters with 2 dual and 4 single turbolasers)
Iowa was 262.5 meters, 3 Three gun 16"/50 Caliber turrets
