Discussion Year 2 ~ What story are you most proud of?

I did one of these last year, and I've always been an advocate for long term storytelling. Often feels like it gets underappreciated on Chaos, so I'm gonna make this an annual thing.

What story are you most proud of? Could be a long term thing, could be something more short term.

Despite it now coming to an end, I feel like Jonyna's relationship drama between dating Taam Moghul Taam Moghul and then Jenn Kryze Jenn Kryze has been a highlight for me. A lot of character development has come from it, including Jonyna finally having someone to share her culture with, to Taam's disappearance causing her to get closer to Valery Noble Valery Noble as a result, then Jonyna coming to have an even more complicated relationship with Mandalorians as a result of Jenn.

I enjoyed taking Corin from plucky padawan with an ego into an arrogant and aggressive knight a lot. Being in the middle of the SGHW set a nice backdrop for Jedi things going on, there was a very large and diverse cast of characters around him that helped make that whole ordeal feel very lived in. I think things kind of naturally declined with burnout post-SGHW and I was writing less, but all the messy stuff with Corin's relationships was just fun, juicy drama that I enjoyed writing. Returning with him on this new arc has been fun and I'm keen to see how it all develops for him.

There's so much with Eve I'm proud of. In general, her healing journey since Woostri, with the help of her loved ones like Valery Noble Valery Noble , Colette Colette and most importantly her powerful and beautiful relationship with Tigris Tigris , has really helped to turn her from a scared and broken little girl into a genuinely mature and empowered young woman. Her crystal trial with Val affirmed so much for her, and seeing the impact of her moment of self-acceptance moves me tbh. Her retreat to Selvaris with Tigris has set in stone how much their relationship means to her, and has positively transformed her in ways neither of us (me and Eve) expected. And her visit back home to see her Mama and reflect on her experiences so far has helped to complete this very important chapter in her emotional journey. This period of her growth over the last couple of months is something I'm so happy with. I'm proud of mah girlie.

She's all ready for her next major trauma... :)

It's a neat question and I thought about it for a bit over breakfast. A few came to mind. Jorus Merrill and Alndys D'Lessio building the Mara Corridor while Jorus shifted from his platonic thing with Chloe Blake to marrying Alndys, all while raising a toddler; Ember Rekali spiralling self-destructively and soloing or tag-teaming two major factions after the capture of his last surviving child, taking him from witchy retired Jedi Shadow to full-bore warlock; Ashin giving up her retirement/immortality to build a coalition to rescue Spencer from a nasty corner of the Netherworld; Ashin's Drengir arc/capture/second trial; Quill saving Tilon from a Jedi massacre, quitting the Jedi, training and adopting Tilon, only for Tilon to become a Jedi and them needing to negotiate that relationship.

But the more I thought about it, the one I think I'm proudest of - and it's been a decade or so, I don't know if it still holds up - was relatively niche. See, there was this one thread where Mandalorians hit a Jedi enclave, bunch of kids died, and I happened to have Jorus' daughter Mara inside, a young Warden of the Sky. Kobayashi Maru, Alamo situation. She was one of the survivors, which I spun off into hanging Mandos, anti-Mando propaganda, a real dark turn, and then getting pulled out of it over time by a gentle kid named Hylo. I've come back to that incident and its consequences a lot.

Last year I mentioned continuing this guys arc from 2015 with Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell and its going to get my mention this year again. Over the past OOC year they have gotten married and had their first child. The wedding story was my favorite over the past year, as Makai is a real emotional sap and it got to be one fluff fest in that regard. In terms of personal growth, Makai actually celebrated/decorated for Life Day, which is big for a guy who dislikes the holiday.

Looking towards this next year coming up, I'm excited to see where the stories go. Embracing the time jump on the board it leaves a lot of avenues for more personal stories. Excited to see how Makai balances his life with his quest to become the largest name in mining.

I've only been on this forum for just over two years. Building up New Cov and NCBC as an NFU has been the highlight. Liin has recently had to move on elsewhere for the time being with barely any support. So she's learning to survive on her own. There's been no relationships or anything of the sort for Liin, so there's no character development there. So she's still very very guarded and has yet to come out of her shell. I'm not sure if she ever could, ha ha!

Jasper has and will continue to be my favorite character that I've written, but having a good year and a half, almost two year time to fully write out getting Braze Braze to knighthood (you are being signaled out lmao) made me feel very fulfilled. I had never been able to get a master to stick for Jasper, which had always been an OOC frustration of mine. I spun his training as a community effort, since Masters were in short supply due to the war IC, but it was always an experience I felt I was sorely missing. It was nice to see it through from the other side of the story arc.

TL : DR, Teacher and Student stories are goated and fulfilling. Commit to stuff. It's awesome.

I don't think I did one for this guy last year. This year I'm most proud of the entire 'long-lost son' arc with Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell . We're just scratching the surface and its already been fun and enriching. I was very nervous to take on the concept when I saw the LFG but I also wanted something to kind of propel Judah into new phase/arc.

Turned out to be an excellent decision IC and OOC. I really appreciate the writer and Bale is someone I hit up on Discord almost daily. Can't wait to see what the future holds as there will be competiting priorities and beliefs for both Judah and Bale and how does that get resolved.

Commit to stuff. It's awesome.

Off topic but I can't agree more with this. I consider myself a loyal RPer once a good arc starts rolling and there is nothing more frustrating then someone just dropping it, especially without informing the other. Following through will end up with richer, more interesting character development.

It is the dichotomy between Maldor Mecetti Maldor Mecetti and Her Her . The confusion, the mystery, and the deceit. All the betrayals... Long may this continue.

In terms of my favourite story from a singular thread it has to be the recent Sartinaynian Crisis. It's rare that one faction, let alone two, allow a singular character to cause such a ruckus. I feel like it really made my character come across as a big bad without making people feel bad.

While I'm new to the site, writing with Liin Terallo Liin Terallo has given a breathe of life into Mr Usher. What was originally a 2 dimensional cartoon villain who was made to serve as non-droid biological fodder for the good guys to kill without remorse has had the chance to evolve into something with more depth and nuance

With only a few, albeit continuous, threads the "abomination in a mafioso suit" has had a opportunity to turn into an exploration of what it means to be sentient, an examination of innate good and evil viewed from the lens of a 'predator and prey' existence, and a unique perspective of favoritism when what can rightfully be called a monstrous abomination is met with curiousity and the beginning of an odd friendship is formed.

And I Still get to use him as biological cannon fodder, just now as a villain with a hunger for knowledge as well as biomass.

They have a very odd friendship, indeed! And I find it to be a very interesting one to explore. Not to mention the shock on other's faces when they encounter the odd friendship is very funny to see, ha ha!
