- Lightsaber Resistant: The shaft and spear of the weapon is made of phrik, allowing the entire length to be lightsaber resistant.
- Sharp Point: The Phrik spear head atop the banner is very sharp and capable of puncturing armor with proper aim.
- Sharp Edge: Though not a slashing weapon, the head is sharp enough to potentially do damage to an unarmored individual.
- Reach: A spear has reach. In the fight between a spear and a sword, the spear has advantage.
- Thrust Weapon: The head is sharp enough to cut. But it isn't going to do any significant damage if you do, it's meant as a thrusting weapon.
- Lengthy Weapon: The weapon's long reach is useful but makes it less useful or downright impossible to use in close quarters environments, like buildings. Even with more open spaces, once the distance is closed it requires very specific tactics to have any use.
- Drag: If the flag is unfurled while fighting, it does produce wind drag and noise. Pretty neat but it does cause more effort to be used on the part of the user.
The Battlefield is a dangerous place, and while modern day IFF devices allow all types to quickly discern friend and foe, there is always those who cannot use such a device. To that end, old tactics, the battle standard, are employed, markings of armies to at a glance know for whom one fights. Aya Clarke, knowing she would be viceroy of a planet, who's militia may not be able to widely use IFF technology and may not be so quickly judged safe by the droid armies should they come to fight together, decided to invest in a battle standard for her forces, which she personally would wield. While others may carry simple standards, she would bright forth one which would not falter.
The design, when she saw it, seemed to be sharp enough to use as a weapon, and she went all in on this design. The tip was made to be capable of cutting unprotected flesh, though by no means with significant depth, and used as a thrusting spear. As Phrik is relatively lightweight, this made for a spear that could be used in a traditional spear wall, one handed, with proper use. So even should the flag fall she still had a phrik weapon in her hands.
She sewed two different flags for herself, that of the Confederacy and its logo, and her own of a blood red hawk in flight. The banner of her family, which she would bear when not under official CIS duties. But no matter what, it would bear a mark demanding those who follow to move on. Yei Karkan, in Ryl, Ever Forward.
