STRENGTHS
Packs a punch: The combination of blaster bolts with kinetic energy found in maser tech means the bolts have a significantly stronger impact, staggering enemies and damaging armour more than a standard blaster bolt.
Anti-Shield Weaponry: Although the laser portion of a maser bolt can still be deflected by personal shields, the kinetic energy will still hurt the target upon impact.
WEAKNESSES
Charging Time: Because of the weapon's complex blast shots must be charged, which makes firing slower than a standard blaster rifle.
Close Range: The kinetic energy that the weapon discharges will dissipate while travelling, meaning the weapon effectively turns into a standard blaster if shooting beyond a couple of meters.
DESCRIPTION
Maser rifles were designed and perfected by the Chiss Ascendancy, dating back millennia. When the Zweihander Union sought to bring order to the Unknown Regions it became apparent that the Chiss would be an integral part of the Union. With Chiss worlds joining the ZU, many Chiss divisions were created and along with them a weapon was designed to facilitate their age old Chiss tactics in the name of the Union: The Z-20. A force to be reckoned with should you get to close. The perfect gun to bring to a knife fight.
Developed as a joint project between Union military researchers and former CEDF scientists, produced and marketed by N&Z Umbrella Corp., the Z-20 is one of the few hand-held maser weapons available outside Chiss Space. Although maser technology is readily available on a larger scale for ships, there has been a recent effort driven by the ZU to scale them back down to infantry size.
While it still packs the signature punch of it's predecessors, the gun's slow rate of fire and slow recharging mechanism can easily deter the common infantryman from using it, especially those unfamiliar with the CQC fighting style of CEDF marines. For combatants with a knowledge of close quarters fighting, the "Ox" offers a unique and powerful alternative to the standard shotgun or heavy blaster pistol.
