HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Zhenya Karius was once a skilled Galactic Republic agent and was present for many of the Republic’s early battles such as Roche, Anaxes and Kashyyyk. There she caught the attention of a certain Maelion Liates, who decided to use the young woman in her operations.
She soon found herself attached to the then-Chancellor Aurelia Saelari where she served as a bodyguard. Zhenya herself was an orphan from Chandrilla for whom military service seemed like the best path out of poverty.
As the war against the Sith Empire was winding down however Zhenya was badly wounded in a battle shortly before the Sith ‘returned to the shadows’. The wound she suffered should have been mortal, but she was taken away for an ‘experimental’ treatment by agents organised by Maelion. This treatment involved processing the young woman, transferring her essence into a computer so she could serve Archangel in robotic form.
When ‘Zhenya’ awoke as an Archangel Human Replica Droid she served Archangel faithfully for many years. Her stunning looks and processed skills of infiltration came in great use for the genocidal droids and she performed many missions, often in deep cover.
However, Archangel’s reckoning was coming in the form of escaped clones and an experiment gone wrong. Zhenya had contact with Amara Zarides and Enyo Typhos of course, but she was one among many faceless HRDs at Archangel’s base. Zhenya was not present for the attack by the Contingency, but in the aftermath she was sent after the ‘insurgents’. Her target was Amara, the apparent weak point of Enyo’s vengeful host. Her mission was to capture Amara first to use her as leverage against Enyo, or if that proved impossible…to kill her.
Amara for her part had been dispatched with her crew to the planet Mon Calamari to close a deal for some ships whilst her sister recruited the primitive Kraal. It was in the shipyards above the water that the battle took place. Warned by the Force that something was wrong, Amara managed to avoid a stun bolt aimed for her by hurling a metal plate into its path. Then, taking the fight to the enemy she was able to get close an engage Zhenya in close combat. It was by no means an easy battle, but Amara succeeded in striking the droid’s head off with her lightsabre, though she required medical care afterwards due to a nasty stab to her chest.
In the aftermath of Archangel’s defeat and re-founding by the pair, the sisters parted ways. Enyo insisted that Amara take an HRD with her to act as bodyguard and informant for her. Amara, remembering the battle above the water, found Zhenya’s ‘intelligence’ within Archangel’s captured databanks and chose her. Enyo chose to use a Malediction model with its enhanced ion resistances to assist her sister.
Why Amara chose her former attacker was a mystery, but she was curious of the story she read. When the droid emerged and was tasked with protecting her she made her part of the crew. Their relation is…odd, as can be expected. Amara’s sometimes jokey personality and generally Light morality was a contrast to the ruthless and logical droid. However, as she insisted that Zhenya would be able to learn and modify her behaviour, the droid has become a little more ‘fun’. Fortunately, Amara is not attracted to her protector, so there will be no awkward romances blossoming on board her ship!
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To create a companion and bodyguard for Amara. This is an HRD created by [member="Enyo Typhos"] with the aim of keeping her little ‘sister’ safe. It therefore has the strengths and weaknesses inherent in a machine.
- Image Credit: Here. Black Widow comic cover from Marvel.
- Role: Bodyguard, chaperone, voice of reason, (not so) secret spy on Amara.
- Links: Archangel
- Age: 1 year old. Appears early 20s.
- Model: Malediction HRD.
- Appearance: Zhenya appears to be a redheaded human woman in her early 20s. She is above average height for a human female, but otherwise appears relatively normal. She is, of course, extremely good looking. She has medium length red hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
In combat she tends to wear combat armour depending on the situation.
Outside of combat she will wear civilian clothes in order to blend in.
- Name: Zhenya Karius
- Loyalties: Amara Zarides and [member="Enyo Typhos"].
- Notable Possessions: Zhenya carries a selection of weapons. These include a concealed vibrodagger on her person. For ranged weapons, she prefers a disruptor, but will also use a bolter when the situation demands it. She also carries a lightsabre,
- Skills: Skilled infiltrator, pilot, ranged and melee specialist. Can speak or understand several million forms of communication. Very capable slicer and programmer.
- Personality: Zhenya, like any HRD, is logical, tireless and dedicated to her role. As an infiltrator or socially she can fill any personality required by the situation. Usually this involves a bit of seduction and persuasion. However, it can also involve a ruthless streak which Amara tries to control depending on the victim.
Outside of combat Zhenya has enough free will to alternate her behaviour depending on her interactions. Mostly she acts as the foil and straight girl to Amara’s more bubbly personality. Amara’s attempts to teach her jokes have gone about as well as expected.
- Combat Function: Zhenya’s primary role is to protect Amara. Though the clone might deny it, she can get in over her head and her bodyguard is there to help. She can fulfil a variety of roles within that umbrella, be it ranged, melee or support.
Zhenya has a variety of weapons for any situation. She will always carry a concealed vibrodagger on her person. For ranged weapons, she prefers a disruptor, but will also use a bolter when the situation demands it. She also carries a lightsabre, as even though she does not have the Force she spars with Amara and it is a very useful melee weapon even if she can’t use it to the full potential a Jedi or Sith might.
Strengths:
As a Malediction Droid, Zhenya is able to absorb ion, electrical and EMP discharges to increase performance. - Zhenya is far stronger and more durable than she looks and more than any human. She feels no pain or remorse and will continue to operate until deactivated.
- Zhenya is a very capable infiltrator. She can mimic voices, blend in to social situations.
- Zhenya has received training from Amara in the use of a lightsabre, training which has been added to her databanks. Though her weight and lack of the Force prevents her easily blocking blaster bolts or doing acrobatics she is a very capable duellist and can tirelessly fight.
- A good selection of weapons allows her to adapt to any combat situation.
Weaknesses:
- The Pyronium circuits are not invulnerable; a sufficiently large ion weapon will still overcome them.
- Zhenya can still be destroyed. Heavy weapons, grenades, lightsabres, repeated blaster bolts etc can still deactivate her.
- They eyes of the unit are especially weak, being not made of metal like the rest of the frame. An attack there has far more chance of doing damage there.
- Zhenya is heavier than she appears she should be, the result of her metal skeleton. Around Force users she will feel ‘odd’. Further, damage to her organic covering will reveal her nature.
- Zhenya cannot use a lightsabre as well as even an Apprentice when it comes to blocking blaster bolts. She might detect and calculate the path of an enemy shot but blocking it is not easy.
- Zhenya lacks programming on the effective use of heavy weapons. She is also not proficient in fighter piloting.
