Name: Zodiac Smart Grenades

Image/credit: http://evender28.deviantart.com/art/Futuristic-Hand-Grenade-69006135
Intent: To create a grenade capable of only being detonated by the user in the fight against force users.
Dev thread:None
Manufacturer: Iron Crown
Production: Minor
Affiliation: Lords of the Fringe
Modularity: Yes (various grenades)
Material: Thermite, axidite, baradium, durasteel, thumb print scanner

Description:

Summary: In the fight against force users the standard soldier in the fight is known to carry various grenades on them. For years and years force users have been able to pull pins or push buttons to activate and kill hundreds of soldiers by using this tactic. The Zodiac Smart grenades are here to change that and save lives on and off the battlefield through creating greater technology against the growing threat of war.

How they work: The Zodiac grenades work on a very simple concept, each soldier is issued their own set of fresh grenades and thermal detonators. To program the grenade the user must take the fresh grenade and place their bare thumbprint onto the scanner. The scanner programs and locks the users print and only allows it to be primed and detonated once the users thumbprint presses down on it once more.

Drawbacks

Limited use: Once it's programmed to your ID the grenade can not be thrown or activated by another person leaving having them be unable to share or pass around in a firefight when ammo is scarce.

EMP: If said soldier were to be caught in the blast of an EMP his grenades would be nothing more than a paper weight

Injury or damage: these grenades can be damaged, if the scanner on the grenade themselves are hit they become unable to scan finger prints and can no longer be activated. If the users thumb print becomes damaged or severed the grenades can no longer become active leaving a massive amount of opportunities to nullify these grenades.

Classification: Grenades

Just a coupla things here.

First, my apologies in taking so long to get to this sub. I know we spoke on skype and I stated I'd hop right on it a few days ago, but between work, my coworker having a death in the family, and a karking stomach bug, I've not been able to Hutt bodyslam the Tech forum like I wanted to. So, my apologies for the very, very long delay.

Second, just for clarification, is this a thumb print scanner or a DNA scanner?

Third, your materials in construction would vary depending on the grenade type UNLESS you're subbing a mod for grenades much like different fuses can be made for various grenades. What you've described looks like the materials to make a thermal detonator. Please swap the materials for something along the lines of "varying grenade materials depending on grenade type" or something similar OR if it's a mod for preexisting grenades, just list the materials that go into the mod/fuse swap.

Fourth, taking the time to individually arm the grenades with a bare thumb print can get cumbersome in combat situations as you'd have to pull off a glove or remove a gauntlet to do so OR you'd pre-ID them beforehand, but that would defeat the purpose of the safety system entirely. Please incorporate this weakness into the submission's description.

@ me when done and we should be good to go :)
