DESCRIPTION

Continuing with their policy of developing tech for use in space Locke and Key Mechanics engineers turned their minds to stand alone weapons for the first time. They decided to start off with a weapon that would be popular and easy to use for anyone looking to repel boarders, or conversely to board a ship, the shotgun. However they realised that in the middle of a firefight struggling with shells is not always the most useful direction one can go with a weapon and so they decided to move in the direction of using a drum loading system instead of a shell loading system. This allowed each reload to provide the shotgun with significantly more rounds of ammunition. The flipside of the equation is that when you have to reload it can take even longer to reload the weapon. In order to allow for an increased speed of fire the Shotgun loading system is gas powered, introducing another limiting element to the weapon, but the designers noted, if you needed more than 150 shotgun blasts to deal with the enemy then you’re probably in a whole other kind of trouble.
