OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an over the shoulder armature mounted slaved ordnance launcher for sale by Breshig War Forge Consolidated and use by Strill Securities.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: N/A.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Magnetically accelerated ordnance launcher.
  • Size: Large.
  • Weight:
    • Three tubes: Average.
    • Two tubes: Light.
    • One tube: Very Light.
  • Ammunition Type: Missiles, rockets.
  • Ammunition Capacity:
    • One tube (one missile/rocket): Extremely Small.
    • Two tubes (two missiles/rockets): Very Small.
    • Three tubes (three missiles/rockets): Small.
  • Effective Range: Extreme. The weapon's accelerator rails can accelerate ordnance to a single range increment higher up to Extreme range.
  • Rate of Fire: Average.
  • Damage Output: Average. Depends entirely on launched ordnance.
  • Recoil: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Armor/HUD Sync: The OL-02S syncs to armor HUD and sensor systems. Target acquisition and assignment is done via armor sensor and HUD systems respectively.
    • Heuristic Processor: A heuristic processor is included to handle the real-time processing requirements of the weapon.
  • Slave Targeting Mode: The weapon can be set to follow the user's head motions, allowing for faster targeting of units not immediately in front of the user.
  • In-built 1-250x Extreme Range 'Kyrayc Sur'haai' Optic System.
  • Armature folds and stows on the back when not in use.
  • The user can choose to attach all three, two or only one tube to the armature.
  • Variable Launch Modes:
    • Standard Launch: When firing unguided ordnance in this mode, the launcher simply arms the warhead and fires the ordnance. If firing guided ordnance, the launcher will first transfer the requisite guidance data to the missile and then arm and launch it.
    • Accelerated Launch: When firing unguided ordnance in this mode, the launcher simply arms the warhead and fires the ordnance at an accelerated velocity using it's accelerator rails. If the ordnance is guided, it'll include the increased velocity and range into the data it feeds the missile. This does mean, however, that the missile must be compatible with the launcher's systems.
  • Variable Fire Modes:
    • Single Tube: Fires only a single tube.
    • All Tubes: Fires all tubes at once.
    • Ripple Fire: Fires all tubes one at a time with a configurable time delay between shots.
STRENGTHS
  • Down, But Not Out: If the accelerator rails are damaged, the weapon can still fire ordnance but with none of the range boosting capabilities.
  • Resilient: The launcher is well protected against most sources of damage that it might be expected to face on the battlefield, notably protecting it's electronics from Ion/EMP weapons.
  • Accelerated Launch: The OL-02S has the capability to considerably increase the launch velocity and hence the range of loaded ordnance by accelerating the ordnance out of the tube using it's accelerator rails.
  • Versatile: The OL-02S features a number of fire and launch modes, allowing it to adapt as per the changing requirements of the engagement.
  • Over and Through Cover: The armature can fire over or around cover while its integrated optic system allows the operator to potentially see through cover by way of its integrated wallscope.
WEAKNESSES
  • EMP/Ion: A powerful enough EMP/Ion weapon can fry the launcher's accelerator coil and it's sensor suite. This will prevent it from using guided ordnance that require initial target data from the launch platform as well as making use of it's accelerated launch function.
  • Heavy Ammunition: Rockets and Missiles are heavy, preventing much additional ammunition for the launcher from being carried practically.
  • Electronic Warfare: Wide area jamming and/or atmospheric interference can decrease the effectiveness and operating range of the optic.
  • Heavy Ammunition: Rockets and Missiles are heavy, preventing much additional ammunition for the launcher from being carried practically.
DESCRIPTION
The OL-02S is designed to put additional firepower into the hands of infantry, whether specialists or riflemen. The system is incredibly popular with and in widespread use by Strill Securities.
The biggest advantage the OL-02S has over traditional launchers is that due to the fact that it is mounted on an armature, it can be aimed around or over cover. Additionally, thanks to its integrated optic system, the operator can also see through some obstacles. That said, any concerted wide area jamming and/or atmospheric interference can decrease the effectiveness and operating range of the optic.
A particular emphasis has been placed on resilience. The launcher tubes are well protected against most sources of damage that it might be expected to face on the battlefield, notably protecting it's electronics from Ion/EMP weapons. Resistance does not however equate to immunity, and any damage that overwhelms these protective measures will fry the launcher's launch rails. Even without its launch rails being active, the launcher can still perform standard launches.
Versatility was also in important factor. The launcher is capable of performing both standard and magnetically accelerated launches of both guided and unguided ordnance. Additionally, the user can choose how many launcher tubes to mount to the armature with a maximum of three tubes able to be mounted and operated. These tubes can then be fired one at a time, all at once or all at once with a configurable time delay between shots.
While having several advantages over traditional ordnance launchers, the OL-02S cannot escape the fact that ordnance by and large is heavy, preventing much additional ammunition for the launcher from being carried practically.
